Our evening at the 2014 Sugar & Champagne Affair hosted by the Washington Humane Society was more spectacular than I dared to ever dream of.
This Annual event honors local crusaders against animal cruelty. In addition to honoring their own, the Washington Humane Society (WHS) recognizes “Humane Heroes” who have demonstrated a positive impact on the lives of animals in the District.
More than 900 humans with well over 400 canines took over the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in downtown DC. It was INSANE, and we loved every single second of the madness.
Here’s how it all went down –
We arrived on time to meet up with our sponsors – Olde Towne Pet Resort – who so graciously invited us to this grand event. “Dashing Dan” (aka Harley) knew he looked good, he started strutting his stuff as soon as his tie went on…
It didn’t take long before The Boys in the white coats and red ties (thank you so much Julie of Mibo Collars) started to attract attention…
I was so proud of how polite they were, allowing everyone all the time they needed to take all the pictures they wanted. Of course DH was doodlerific answering questions about “what’s it like with two?” and sharing information about the Goldendoodle breed…
Meanwhile Harley sat in on an impromptu business meeting with his furrends at OTPR as they discussed pet resort “stuff”…
Lots of pawdorable pooches, with extremely furrendly pet parents…
I thought I would pass out from fear when a news reporter asked me to do an “on the spot” live interview. I was so nervous…
The mood in the air was electrifying, and everything was absodoodleutely pawfect…
Harley & Leo won the hearts of many that night especially the one belonging to WHS Board Member Mr. Kenton W. Keith. Such a sweet spirit, The Boys took to him instantly…
And the food – OH MY DOODLE – there were sweets galore showcasing the DC area’s most talented pastry chefs. And some of the worlds finest sparkling wines complementing the delectable confections in more ways than I could have ever imagined…
Oodles and doodles of tasty doggy treats as well….
Everything was simply perfect. Read an honorable mention about Harley & Leo in the Examiner:
DOGS IN TIARAS, TUXES AT WASHINGTON HUMANE SOCIETY’S SUGAR AND CHAMPAGNE
We met so many new furrends, and we are all still a little weary from our extraordinary evening. But I’m still smiling when I think about my shining stars…
PS: About those shoes! I didn’t fall, but my feet were KILLING me towards the end of the night. I tried to hide but DH found me (so wrong)….
Thanks for checking back in with us, have a great weekend…

Tiffany – you should totally order a tie for Kate’s dog. Dave would really love it. Maddie could rock it when they all go out to dinner in the springtime. Thanks for reading and always being there sweetheart!!

What a time that must have been for you and dogs! Glad you had a smashing good time and hope that your feet got a good soaking. 🙂

We had a “smashing” time but my feet are still throbbing. Walking wasn’t so bad but when Leo decided to pull me across a crowded room, that’s what probably did me in. Only slippers for the weekend, then I’ll move up to sneakers!
Thanks for reading, and please come back again soon.

The Boys had a great time with you too. They were so tired when they got back home they rested all day before leaving for the big event. They’re off at camp today, romping around with their buddies. Everything is back to normal well sort of…

Looks like a fun time but I do have one question. You are wearing white like the boys, but why don’t you have a red tie or scarf or something? Hope you can all put your paws up and relax this weekend.
February 7, 2014
You know Emma, I thought long and hard about some red boots – I really did. But at the end of the day, I chose the white footwear. Perhaps you have something there, a splash of red would have set it off. Your boyFURRends are hanging out with their buddies at day camp today. Romping around having some fun. Have a great weekend Emma darling….

Looks like a fun time! You and the boys look marvelous. Glad the ties worked out for them.
February 12, 2014
Julie – your ties were such a hit and out of 400 dogs there were only two ties – yours! If all the particulars work out for an event in April we will need two new ones )everybody has already seen the red ones!) I’ll let you know. Thanks again so much!
