Earlier this summer, after I gave Jax a bath, I barricaded him on the deck to air dry. He was bored to death and took it out on me. #pest I couldn’t get a thing done, and that’s when I remembered I’d made ice balls.
What are ice balls?
I saw this video on FB a while ago of a cat licking this ginormous ball of ice. Supposedly the cat enjoyed hours of fun licking this thing, and I thought “hmmm, this could be fun to watch with a dog.” #Imstrange
You take a regular balloon, fill it with ice and throw it in the freezer.
I placed it in an old plastic bowl but they just stared at it…
Then I realized the balloon vinyl was still on there #duh
When I did unwrap the ice ball, Harley smelled it and walked away. #notinterested
Jax studied it for a few minutes, not quite sure what to do with it…
While I waited for him to touch it, I realized something. A cat may enjoy licking the ball because that’s what cats do. They lick stuff. Would Jax?
Jax tried licking for a hot minute, but quickly decided to take a different approach to his version of attacking the ice ball…
I was entertained as Jax tried to “eat” the ice ball, Harley on the other paw – was not amused…
Although the ice ball kept Jax busy for quite some time, he finally gave up and let the thing melt as his coat dried…
While ice is a true treat for Jax, giant ice balls I don’t think make his list!
I still think this could be loads of fun for dogs who like to lick stuff. If warm weather hasn’t left your town yet – give it a try and let us know how it worked for you!
One more thing –
Sorry we’ve been gone the past two weeks, we’ve missed you, and we’re happy to be back. Lot’s of changes about to happen, so please continue to hang out with us as we embark upon a whole new world for Groovy Goldendoodles…
It’s Monday Mischief blog hop time. Brought to you by My Brown Newfies. The Hop that wraps up the weekend.

What a good idea. I would like that!

Give it a try – but please let us know if you liked it!

I bet if you mixed low sodium chicken broth with the water and then froze it, Jax would be more interested!
September 14, 2015
I’m sure he would Amanda – but the thought of him smelling like chicken broth the rest of the day – ugh! Jax is one messy eater, and I’m sure it would be all over his mouth LOL
September 14, 2015
Brilliant idea, hehe!

Get yourself a balloon Earl and give it a try!

We were wondering if you all were moving or what, but saw the wedding on Facebook. Bailie loves crunching ice because she learned it as a little puppy, Katie and I prefer to let it melt and then have a drink.
September 14, 2015
We are moving Emma – and yes the wedding has taken up all our time these past two weeks. Happy to report – it was a doodle*tastic wedding, and we’re finally back home. Jax would have preferred to let the ice melt also, perhaps because it was so huge, it took a long time to melt and he just lost interest.

Look at his cute fuzzy butt!! 🙂 I might have to give that a try and see if my pups would be interested in it.
September 14, 2015
I would love to know if it was a hit at your house – so do tell if you try it.

Sam could care a whit by ice anything. He looks at me like I’ve just kicked his little brother or something. That dog has no sense of humor. 😉
September 14, 2015
Well Sam and Harley would get along famously then!
September 14, 2015
I’m 100% certain that Rita would have the same reaction as Harley. 🙂
September 14, 2015
Oh – no doubt! Rita and Harley are cut from the same cloth LOL

Mr. N has never shown any interest in ice weirdly enough. I second the broth idea.
September 14, 2015
The broth sounds like a good idea but the way Jax slurps – that would certainly warrant a bath immediately afterwards. The doodle wears his food sometimes. I can just imagine stink dried chicken broth on his chin. #yuck
September 15, 2015
Haha – I’ve seen that cat video and know exactly what you are talking about. I am not sure what Callie would do… she drinks a lot of water and is the lick-iest cat I’ve ever had so maybe she’d like it. Jax seems to be entertained by the ice ball at least lol.

Welcome back! I was stalking your FB this weekend. The pictures and video were great.
Love the signature.
I’ve never heard of ice balls. I’m curious what our dogs would do – actually, I know. Rodrigo would get it into his mouth somehow – he’d lick it until he could bite into it, then he’d take off running with the other dogs chasing him. They do that with every round object.

My dogs like to play with ice in the winter. They throw it around, crunch it and stomp it.
