It was time for a visit to Virginia. We’d left the motorcycles and the trailer with our neighbors and chose this weekend to hit the highway headed North to bring them back.
Right after I saw the “Welcome to Virginia” sign – Thin Lizzy’s song “The Boys are Back in Town” was embedded in my brain…
The lyrics (at least the first verse) seemed so appropriate for this occasion.
Guess who just got back today
Them wild-eyed boys that had been away
Haven’t changed that much to say
But man, I still think them
catsDoodles are crazy
This super quick journey was what Doodle Dad calls a “turn-around” trip. #inandout
I knew I’d only be able to see a few places and faces. #notime #doodleit –
- my human children
- Olde Towne Pet Resort #batheandplaydate
- the old neighborhood
I was intrigued to see just what the Boys remembered. True it’s only been a couple of months, but so many “experts” claim dogs only “live in the moment” I wanted to gage their reactions to familiar sights.
DO MY BOYS HAVE EPISODIC MEMORIES?
I’d like to think so. #makesmehappy
When I dropped them off at the pet resort it was like old times.
What once was a tiny Jaxson for Kathy to hug, has now become a handful!
But they hugged – none-the-less…
Harley has always been a “puppy prop” favorite at OTPR. He’d let them carry him anywhere…
He’d sit and hang out with anyone…
On Saturday, we added “do anything” to that list as he completed Fernando’s sled dog team…
Sunday’s hours were spent on “da- block.”
Jax has always jumped for neighbor Mark, but I don’t think neighbor Mark was ready for a taller Jax…
Brigette and Harley have that quiet relationship. They prefer to just sit together.
You see not much has changed…
Harley and Jaxson’s human companions were super excited to see them too! They quickly reminded me this was “Egg Nog” milkshake season at McDonald’s #doodleliciousstuff – so just like last year, off we went #icecreamforthedoodlesplease…
I’m sure you remember lil’ Ms. Finley? #heartthief She’s a beautiful little doodle teenager now…
The re-connection was instant and the two of them played for hours…
When Finley was much smaller and younger, Harley wasn’t interested in playing with her. It’s a different kind of pawty now #doodlemania…
While many things do have a tendency to change, just as much seems to remain the same. #friendship
A lesson we all seemed to have learned this weekend. 🙂
UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN…
How was your weekend?

November 23, 2015
We live in the moment, but we remember the past when we are reminded. Take people we haven’t seen in years, we remember them. What a fun little trip you had.

You are so happy! Cute

It was a blast Claudette. I even got to see the Seniors at EBC before their event. It was a great way to spend a Saturday and Sunday!
November 24, 2015
It is so much fun to see the evidence that dogs remember people and other canines.
November 25, 2015
Yes it is! I laughed when Harley ran to our old yard after he finished visiting some of the neighbors. It was like he expected me to open the door for him LOL
November 24, 2015
Look at all those happy memories! Love!!
November 25, 2015
It was the best Nichole, simply the best!
November 24, 2015
What wonderful photos! It looks like such a fun visit!
November 25, 2015
It really was! It was a quick one, and we didn’t get to see nearly as many as we wanted, but it was wonderful just the same. How have you been?
November 24, 2015
It must have been like a celebrity sighting when you and the boys pulled into the neighborhood. 🙂
I believe dogs have excellent memories. When my sister pulled up to our house in Ithaca (I heard her from upstairs; Honey didn’t know anything), I said, “Aunt Mel is here” and Honey got all excited.
She didn’t know my sister was coming. A car pulling up didn’t mean anything to her (since we only had bikes). So I can only think she remembered Aunt Mel and was happy to see her.
It looks like Jaxson and Harley have good memories too.

The entire weekend was like a celebrity sighting Pamela. While they played at the pet resort – wherever I went, people asked “where are the Boys?” They were the ones who were truly missed, not I. LOL #doodletaxi
November 25, 2015
They look so happy to see all their old pals! Great before/after pics!
November 25, 2015
Thanks Jackie, they were excited the entire weekend. It’s as if they knew this was a special visit and they made the most out of it too!
