Zoomies are a regular occurrence at our house…

There’s no rhyme or reason for this eruption of energy…

Out of nowhere, without warning they spontaneously combust into motion –

  • Leaping off the couch
  • Runnning around in circles
  • Darting from one room to the other
  • Acting as if they’ve lost their ever loving doodle minds.

We call it the “zoomies” but there’s actually a term for it.

Frenetic Random Activity Periods – a normal release of energy.

Bursts of activity, where the dog runs around, racing from one end of a room to the other, sometimes spinning in circles and with a bit of a wild glint in their eye, usually end in a contented and exhausted flop onto the ground and are fueled by the loads of energy that most puppies and many adult dogs have. FRAP’s are spontaneous and in our house they can be predictable. Jaxson is definitely going to catch the “zoomies” right after a bath. He rolls all over the floor then races up and down the stairs a few times before passing out in his bed. #itsaritual

Outside seems to be another stimulant…

While zoomies are supposed to be prevalent in puppies and young dogs, Harley gets his FRAP on too! He loves to run in circles, then dart straight to me, jump up and “zoom” back to his circles.

FRAP’s seem to be more of an afternoon / evening activitiy. But I have witnessed a few rare mid morning jaunts.

They both seem to enjoy it, They have this look of shear joy on their faces.

Their happiness is so contagious – we both end up smiling 🙂

Some people believe this is a sign your dog may need more outlets for their energy. Not sure I agree #justsaying

My Boys get plenty of exercise – regularly, yet they still #zoomzoom.

I’ve also read we (humans) should not encourage or participate in the activity. I don’t know about you, but their movements are so fast and erratic I dare not budge for fear of getting in the path of the tazmanian devil…

Any and all dog breeds enjoy a moment or two of sheer bliss called FRAPing.

When it happens around here – I just sit back and enjoy the show!

You all did a great job “doodling” the alphabet! Zoomies are so fun, but we only do them outside, or after a bath 😉

Thanks Emma! Jax enjoys a good zoom-zoom after a bath too!

Zoomies are the best! When Callie and Shadow were pups, they used to treat us to a case of the zoomies when we got home from work. Their zoomies eventually stopped inside because the house is too small for it; but outside? Look out world! Like you, I had to steer clear of Taz’s whirlwind! Ducky picked up where her older sisters left off, though, so we still get at least two daily doses of the demonbrat’s whirlwind. 🙂

Thy just finished one upstairs a few minutes ago. That’s my signal to take them out back for a bit of a break! What’s so impressive to me, when they do start racing around the house they have yet to break anything. Have a great week my friend!

“Zoomies”—I like that word 🙂 Ours do it, too… Some more than others, but since they’re all mutts, it’s hard to tell whether it’s a trait of one of their ancestors or something they’ve learned from each other. It’s cool to watch, though, and it never fails to make me happy 🙂

Congratulations on reaching the finish line!

I don’t believe it’s breed specific, I’d like to think it’s their way of releasing energy in a high spirited manner. Either way, I love to watch – they always seem to have such fun when their doing it. Thanks so much for hanging with us during the challenge! Have a great week!

Awesome zoomies!! Bichons are known for Zoomies too! Except for them, it is called the Bichon Blitz!

Wow – you made it through the alphabet! Very impressive! I can barely keep up with my once/week posts. 🙂

My sis calls that “FRAP”ing too. But we call it devil-dogging at our house. 🙂 Rita doesn’t devil-dog all that often, though. She’s a fairly mellow girl!

FRAPing is a regular event here in Doodleville. It never gets old for me either. I sometimes laugh out-loud #oops

Ha ha, I love the Tasmanian Devil reference. I often have to dodge Luke when he gets going! I don’t think the girls have ever really done zoomies; or it was so long ago now I don’t remember. It will be interesting to see if Luke continues to do them as he gets older. I just love watching him go!

Girl – if I don’t get out of the way sometimes, I could be down and out before you could spell DOODLE! LOL
