YOUR ESSENTIAL DOG WALKING ACCESSORY

What would you call your essential dog walking accessory?

Is it:

  • poop bags?
  • treats?
  • a water bottle?

All of those are vital for a successful walk around town – but none of the above rank at the top of my new list.

Numero uno for me is now a cell phone protection cover…

YOUR ESSENTIAL DOG WALKING ACCESSORY

I know, I know – who in their right mind carries a cell phone these days without protection?

Feel free to scold me in the comments below because I deserve it. #letitrip

MY PREAMBLE –

The weather was absoDoodletutely gorgeous. By the time we started our afternoon walk, we had a soft, constant, cool breeze.

I grabbed my gear snatching my phone from the banister post as my hand turned the front door knob.

Perhaps I would live a bit on the wild side, take the boys off their leashes in the middle of Hampton Park and catch some short videos of them racing around the huge Magnolia’s which always smell so divine…

YOUR ESSENTIAL DOG WALKING ACCESSORY I chose the umbilical belt vs. their Wacky Walk’r leashes on purpose. “Use the belt”, I thought. “Eliminate carrying a pet pouch.  Keep the phone in your hand and be camera ready!” #regrets #Ihaveafew

MY APOCALYPSE –

We walked about 3 miles of her 63 acres. I was completely lost in her beauty…

YOUR ESSENTIAL DOG WALKING ACCESSORY

Directly in front of me stood a spectacular sight. A tree, wearing piles of dangling moss on its branches which looked like scarves draped over someone’s arms. The moss swung slowly in the breeze. As I marveled at Mother Nature’s artistic talents, I noticed Harley had sat down with his back towards me directly in the path of this tree. It was as if he was listening to the moss and leaves as the wind blew them ever so slightly.

Quietly I took Harley’s leash off of the belt and laid it down. I scolded myself silently for not bringing my camera and settled for my phone. Angled just right, my finger was about to touch that dot on the screen when it happened.

PARK SQUIRRELS –

Park squirrels have become so accustomed to humans and domesticated animals – their level of fear has decreased dramatically.

The one that ran directly in front of Jaxson either had no fear or he was living that dare devil squirrel life. Focused on Harley and this beautiful setting, I didn’t give the squirrel any thought. Jaxson however, did.

Already positioned halfway between a stand and a crouched down squat, the belt snatched me to the left so fast I must have looked like someone from a B rated horror movie. You know, where the person is walking down the dark alley and all of a sudden they’re gone!

Of course I flew with the belt (it really doesn’t come off ya’ll) – and the phone went high up in the air. Repeatedly, I remember telling myself to straighten up and pull to the right so I wouldn’t go down. I was able to do so, and that’s when I saw my phone spinning downward – rapidly.

Reaching like Gumby, stretching my arms as far as they would go – I touched a corner of the phone but it slipped away.

For a few seconds I was that wide receiver already in the end zone with my finger tips right there, but I couldn’t grab the whole thing.

Talk about a fumble…

Jaxson pulled one more time, taking me completely out of reach and the fat lady started singing.

My phone didn’t land on its backside – it landed on its face. All that grass around me but instead it landed in the gravel.

Everything moved in slow motion, yet it was over in a flash.

KARMA –

My daughter once told me that –

Karma was a bitter witch with a photographic memory

She’s right.

Hundreds of times Doodle Dad, friends and family would ask me why I didn’t have a cover for my phone.

My excuses made sense to me –

  • It’s too bulky
  • I’ve never used a case
  • I’m good
  • Nothings gonna happen

Now they sounded stupid!

I stood there (still being tugged by Jaxson) frozen and afraid to turn my phone over.

TOO YOUNG TO DIE –

This phone is less than a year old. It’s too young to die. I keep phones forever, the thought of having to get another one so soon just doesn’t compute to me.

While it still works – #sortof I am making an Apple appointment on Monday to take it in and get it assessed…

Please don’t ask me if I’ve got phone insurance – remember I’m the one that didn’t think a protective phone case was necessary. #imspecial

As I mourned my phone, the squirrel rested in the branches above and looked down at Jaxson with a wicked smile. Jaxson seemed thrilled with himself, but I can’t really tell you why.

Harley was the one who made me laugh minutes before the tears tried to fall.

As I pulled Jax from the tree, cradling my busted and bruised phone – I noticed Harley looking at both of us. He never moved from his spot. When we walked towards him, he turned back to face the tree as if our miniature apocalypse had disturbed him.

As if I somehow understood, I gave him a few extra minutes before leashing him back up.

Some things you just can’t make up – this would be one of them!

Anybody know of a good iPhone 6Plus protective case they’d like to recommend? I’m interested. #imsmarternow

Prayers to all in the path of Hurricane Florence ❤️

My mom doesn’t believe phone cases or protectors either. The fate of her phone happened last winter after shoveling the driveway, she came in and when taking off her coat, let it fall to the ground landing on the wood floor. Probably because it was so cold outside, the phone hit just right and the back side shattered. She lived with it for months, but finally got a new phone. This one has a slim rubber case and a shatterproof screen protector she put on the front. We don’t do mac or IPhone here so not sure if that is available for IPhones, but it is supposed to protect the screen from shattering in almost any kind of incident. Good luck, and remember, you are not the only stubborn one when it comes to phone protection.

I’m so sorry your phone is injured! I have a glass protective covering on the screen to help alleviate the dreaded screen cracks. I also have a phone case with the picture of our granddoodle. Best of both worlds. I ordered it online from Zazzle.
    Good Luck.
Give the boys a hug for me!

I never used to put a case on my phone either – but that was back when I had my little LG flip phone. When I got my first iPhone 5c, I decided it might be a good idea. I got one of those Life-Something cases that protect the whole phone. And it lasted longer than the phone itself. When I got the SE, I got a less expensive case. But I don’t remember the name and I threw out the packaging long ago. Wish I could help! I just know I’ll never buy an iPhone without a protective case. They’re too da*n expensive and flimsy. I’m usually very careful with my phones, too, but accidents happen.

As for Hurricane Florence…I saw on the news yesterday that it could affect the coastline from Myrtle Beach down as far as Savannah, so please be careful and safe!! They were already starting mandatory evacuations in the Outer Banks. You, Lee, and the DoidleBoys – as well as Pamela, Mike, and Honey – will all be in my thoughts as Florence barrels toward you. Come to think of it, Florence is a good name for this storm…my former stepmother (also named Florence) was destructive too.

I’m a believer of phone cases now! I even went so far as to get a shatter proof screen for the phone face. Cell phones cost too much money, I can’t afford to buy phones like that LOL. We were blessed in regards to Hurricane Florence. Once again the hurricane lost momentum and turned it’s direction before coming our way. Whew…..

You have such an amazing gift with words. I look forward to GGD! Sorry your ego is bruised but in light of everything all is ok. Upgrade to a new phone???
By the way, I want to leave where you live. San Antonio just doesn’t compare.

Wow, what a story….you described it so well I could picture every aspect in my mind. Sorry about your phone. My hubby made me put a screen protector thing on mine, and thank goodness for that. I used to be so good, but now I seem to drop mine all.the.time. He got it at Staples originally….it’s called Liquid Armor All Screen Protector.
It’s actually saved mine from a couple drops in water too. OK, it was the toilet, because I have a bad habit of forgetting I put my phone in my back pocket. LOL! But quick reflexes and drying it off immediately saved it….but I think the screen protector is the big factor.

LOL! I don’t think I will be much help because I don’t really believe in phone cases either because I am super clumsy some might even say a walking disaster – but I also like to put things off and I’ve been putting off buying a case for a LONG TIME. And yes, I am knocking on wood right now.

P,S. This is your friends from The Daily Pip. We have changed our blog name to myrescuedlife.com.

So far I am hanging in there with my clumsy heavy phone case cover however, I have dropped the phone twice since then and it’s survived perfectly – so I guess I’m a believer in having a phone case. I also got Apple to place a shatterproof shield on the front, that should help me as well.

Ugh…so sorry you experienced that. I always take my phone with me on walks and {gulp} I’ve managed to avoid a broken screen despite ripping trousers, bruising various body parts and just generally buggering up myself. I hated having a case (you’re right…it IS too bulky) but can honestly say in the 4 years I had the phone it was never damaged. The battery however gave out and was promptly replaced Monday. And the first two accessories purchased…yup…a case AND a screen protector. I’m not tempting my clumsy fate! We’ll see how it goes with the bigger phone this time.
