Here’s a “jog your memory” test for you…
If you can remember:
BOSCO: the “chocolatey rich thick syrup” you used to flavor your milk and spoon over your ice cream.
OR if you can sing the SLINKY song:
“What walks down stairs, alone or in pairs
and makes a slinkity sound?
A spring, a spring, a marvelous thing!
Everyone knows it’s Slinky.
It’s Slinky, it’s Slinky,
It’s fun, it’s a wonderful toy.
It’s Slinky, it’s Slinky,
It’s fun for a girl or a boy.”
Then you certainly should remember these kids…
That’s right – The Little Rascals!
Boy do I remember them! Alfalfa, Darla, Spanky, Buckwheat, Stymie, Froggy and of course “Petey” the dog!
(side note: can anyone tell me who Petey actually “belonged to?”)
On our street I am fortunate to have my own “little rascals gang” to keep my laughing.
There are countless days when I watch them in action as they unknowingly mimic the original group from decades ago…
Two of the rascals – William and Colin, moved in next door for only a little while, but their presence made a doodlenormous impact on Harley & Leo…
“Doodle-dates” were plentiful all year round…
Harley & Leo acted just like kids sometimes. If William & Colin ran in their house for something, they would wait on “their” lawn under “their” tree until they came back outside…
There were days when William would “chauffeur” Harley on pretend trips in our driveway…
And then there were Saturday’s when Harley would not let Mike mow his own lawn!…
When the “for sale” sign went up, and their anipals moved away, Harley & Leo seemed so confused…
But their father brought them back to say “goodbye.” Although it was a heavy-hearted moment. The rascals were together again, one more time…
I pawmised them they will never be forgotten, yet their absence in “the gang” leaves a void on the block. I honestly believe Harley & Leo will furever remember their “rascal romps” in the backyard…
