NATIONAL SOUP MONTH | TASTY TUESDAY

By Tuesday, January 20, 2015 14 , Permalink

January is National Soup Month – who knew? Not I! So when an unexpected snowfall showed up earlier this month, it made pawfect sense to whip up a dish of homemade Turkey Stock broth from The Honest Kitchen for Harley…

1

Our morning walks are usually the most vigorous. Harley is the type of dog that gets his adequate eight hours of sleep – every night! He has himself on his own schedule and will put himself to bed regardless of what activities are occurring in the house. So when the sun rises, so does he, and we’re off for the races.

Weather patterns are irrelevant when it comes to our morning walk, we’re going and that’s all there is to it…

He’s the boss when it comes to our morning walk #sortof We walk his brisk pace and we stay out there as long as he wants. He selects our route (we have several) and he dictates when he’s had enough…

For me, there is nothing like a nice hot cup of coffee once we’re inside. My face is cold, the coffee is warm – it’s a great combo. So I thought – pawhaps Harley would enjoy the same experience…

We love The Honest Kitchen products because their dehydrated pet food, treats and supplements are made from whole foods that you’d recognize in your own kitchen! Everything is made from 100% human grade ingredients and is processed in a human food processing plant right next to foods you’d find in your local healthy food store.

Super simple to prepare, this turned out to be a delicious broth which “complimented” Harley’s dry food. We just blended it with hot water and mixed it right in…

Sold in a set of three:

  • Chicken Consomme
  • Beef & Bone
  • Turkey Stock

The Turkey Stock quickly became Harley’s favorite, but he’s also enjoyed the Chicken Consomme. He shared the Beef & Bone flavor with his little dachshund girlfriend Piper who is a beef fanatic!

This has turned out to be a huge hit here in Doodleville – especially in the mornings…

Although I’m a little late in trying these broths and they are now discontinued (limited holiday edition) 🙁 I felt compelled to share this one item with you in hopes of encouraging you to visit THK website because they really do make “the honest difference” when it comes to pet food options.

TALKING ABOUT SOUP…

This really is National Soup Month, and I found two incredible healthy HUMAN soup recipes for us:

  • Curried Pear and Butternut Squash Soup
  • Potato Kale Soup

Check it out right here!

Eat something tasty today and as always, thank you so very much for sharing me with all your friends!

In full disclosure: I am not compensated for this review. Just wanted to share  a great find, swayed only by Harley’s lip smacking and tail wagging approval.

Hmm, I never really thought of giving Honey a warm treat after a walk. Maybe she’d enjoy that too.

On the other hand, with the snow around here I’d probably be better off using the broth to clear all the snow balls that stick to her fur. 🙂

Pamela, so far we’ve only had “dustings” of snow. I have major fear that February is going to be awful. Even with Harley’s snow suit – he’ll have snow balls all up the leg of the suit. The broth is really good, I hope they bring it back. Check out the soups for humans, they sounded delicious to me, will make some real soon!

I was hoping for cream of wabbit or something like that! We don’t do “soup”. Mom doesn’t like warm/hot drinks, not even hot chocolate, so we don’t get any either. She comes in from the cold and has ice water…silly woman! If it is real cold, we get some eggs to warm our tummies. Mom says this soup would end up all over my ears and make a huge mess, so she won’t even let us try it. My long floppys always fall into my bowls even though I have bowls for long eared dogs. Oh well, it sure sounds good. Enjoy, Harley!

Emma, we have ear problems here too. Sometimes I have to actually wipe Harley’s ears down BOL So far this winter we haven’t had much snow – none really. But that seems to be changing as early as tomorrow. Weather reports for the next couple of days sound like they could be brutal, so I will start making human soup before the week is out.

I didn’t know they made bowls for long-eared dogs! How funny!!! Egg sounds like a yummy warm up meal.

Sometimes I do have to move the ears out of the way. It can become a problem depending on what’s in the bowl. Harley loves eggs. Do you?

We entered some giveaways to try some of the Honest Kitchen soups, but I guess we missed out this year! It sure would hit the spot for the dogs with the cold winter we’ve been having.
We’ve been trying a few Honest Kitchen products and it’s really a company we are coming to love and hope to try more of their products.
I love homemade soup in the winter and might have to try out the human recipes you shared!

Just found out we’ve got snow coming our way for several days Jan (tomorrow, Fri, Sat and Mon) so I will probably make some human soup myself. Let me know which one you choose!

I agree with you on that one Retro Rover. Homemade soups are the best too! Harley seems to have adopted my love of soup with his love of The Honest Kitchen. Thanks for stopping by. Take care and stay warm 🙂

Hoping to not see a whole lot of snow Deirdre, but every time I glance out my window, I see the flakes getting bigger and bigger. YIKES!
