There’s a great deal of “hype” about cross bred dogs. The focus is either on loving or hating the poodle cross breed variations. Trust me – I have had my share of humans expressing their ambivalence…
However, this is NOT what today’s post is about. #puttingitoutthere
Cross-breeding has been a “thing” for centuries. I found 36 combinations with 50% originating from the Standard Poodle! #anotherpostcomingonthat
Unlike a “mixed” breed (three or more organisms involved) a “cross” breed is produced by crossing two organisms.
Once you learn about the two breeds that make up your new furry family member, how do you compare –
- maintenance requirements
- and everything else?
This is what today’s post is about 🙂
HIGHLIGHTING DIFFERENCES & SIMILARITIES –
Months ago I stumbled onto dog-learn and their incredible interactive cross breed comparison chart…
It does an excellent job highlighting the differences and similarities of the two breeds you select. They offer side-by-side information on –
- general details
- living environment
- exercise needs
- grooming needs
- breed mentality, focus, and instincts
- common health issues
- coat (type, texture, length, color)
I laughed when I glanced at the “breed instincts” category for chasing. With the Golden Retriever it’s “high” and with the Poodle it’s “below average.” Mystery solved with Harley’s disinterest in chasing balls…
He must take after his Pappy – the Poodle!
BRINGING HOME A PUPPY –
A family friend recently brought home a cross bred puppy.
Meet Sir Phoenix…
He’s a French Bulldog and Boston Terrier. I shared this page with her and she found it beneficial in solidifying her decision to move forward with pet-ternity.
She has a better understanding of –
- the exercise required
- which breed distracts easily
- average temperature tolerance.
I know what you’re thinking –
Can’t you just look up each breed separately?
Well… yes, you sure can but – why not just look at this comparison site? #justsaying
Phoenix and the family are adjusting well… #spoiledasheshouldbe
*Research the breeder please –
