By the time you read this – I will be hanging out at the Charleston Airport – they’re using Therapy Dogs…

CHARLESTON SC AIRPORT USES THERAPY DOGS

WHAT STARTED AS A BLOG POST –

Earlier this year I stumbled across an article about how more airports are utilizing canine crews to assist with stress reduction. Between delayed, cancelled or missed flights – tension headaches, aggravation, and disappointment can show up and take up residence within the best of us. I thought this would be a great thing for Harley and I to do during the holidays. We’d walk around the airport and try to turn some frowns upside down.

To me, it sounded like something Harley and I would enjoy…

CHARLESTON SC AIRPORT USES THERAPY DOGS

Never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d have company!

Like skipping rocks across a pond, the ripple effect occurred. Before I knew it, I was working at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Volunteer Services where the Pet Therapy Program resides.

I shared my concept, was encouraged to pursue it, and the rest is our story for another blog post #gotcha

Until then, know that Harley has “Doodle Duty” on Wednesday – with 21 other incredible therapy pups and their pawsome parents.

The airport Press Release has more details about this Doodletastic community outreach project.

Love is not to be purchased and affection has no price ❤️

This is our contribution in the BlogPaws Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

We have friends that do that here too and they love it. My mom hates the airport and anything to do with flying. After 11 years of being a flight attendant, she has no patience for anything at the airport and will drive before flying if at all possible. I’m sure it is a fun job if you don’t mind air travel, but our Mom would be too stressed to take us there! She doesn’t even like dropping off or picking up people there!

I had no idea your mom was a flight attendant. I too am not a big flyer. I prefer to drive and on occasion take the train. i also don’t care much for all the people – nor do I find planes comfortable to travel in. But this was a totally different experience – and it was a great deal of fun.

That is so awesome, good for you guys!!! I didn’t realize there were therapy dogs at the airport until my friend in Canada said she took her therapy dog there. She said people really appreciated it. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

People were super appreciative. There were so many people, and even those who were rushing through the airport – they found time to stop, smile, pet, hug and laugh with us before continuing on their way.
Therapy dogs belong in the airport.

Denver has a similar program and we think it’s fur-bulous! Well done Doodle Therapists!

Denver was one of the leaders in adding Therapy dogs to the airport. Well done! I saw first hand – the impact these dogs can make.
      Truly amazing.

What an awesome opportunity! I love this idea. A lot of people at airports are stressed out. Harley has a very important job. 🙂

People are really stressed out, You can see it on their faces. Adults, children, especially Senior Citizens. Everyone wanted to pet a dog, It was mind blowing. the best decision I could have ever made was to certify Harley as a Therapy Dog.

If Vancouver has a program, have you thought about sharing him with them. He would be a superstar I have no doubt.
Hope your Thanksgiving holiday was PAWsome.

What a great thing Harley that you are doing! My human Dad works at an airport, but they don’t have therapy doggies there. I mentioned your article to him as inspiration! Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family! Head nuzzles!

Awwhhhh! Thanks so much Valentine. Tell your human Dad it was an incredible experience. The airport he works at might want to look into something similar.

I’ve been seeing more stories on the news about therapy animals at the airport. Usually it’s dogs, but a few months ago, there was a therapy pig!

People are so stressed traveling at the holidays. It’s really nice of you and Harley to make things easier for them. I bet kids loved seeing you guys there.
