Harley and Jaxson are going to be Beach Bum Doodles today!…
Like many other cities across this country, Charleston is experiencing soaring temps and stifling humidity.
Triple digit heat index has strangely become the norm. #sizzlelife
I sweat profusely just getting the mail!
If I walk them any earlier in the morning, it will be dark and I’ll need a flashlight!
Harley actually rolled his eyes at me when I tried to serve breakfast before dawn.
During the middle of the day the streets and sidewalks are on fire. I know because I tested them. #ouch
They don’t wear booties so we have mini breaks in the backyard throughout the day.
Sunday, Jaxson whined to go out. It was only 11:00am -ish.
I threw the ball three times, he caught it twice #doodledown…
Monday, I tried to entertain them with the sprinkler.
Harley watched from the window and Jaxson paid it no attention #GenerationZDoodles…
HOW HOT IS IT? –
Yesterday when I tried to take a few pictures, my lens captured the heat in the photo…
So we’re headed to the Isles of Palms beach in the morning…
WHAT DO I BRING TO THE BEACH? –
- Food, treats and water – lot’s of water!!
- Poop bags – water play makes my pups poop! #keepingitreal
- Extra leashes – I have short leashes for walking to/around the beach, but use longer leashes for swimming.
- Shade and sunscreen – umbrellas and blankets are a must. I want them protected with a cool covered place to rest. White haired dogs are prone to damage from the sun, a spray for skin protection is a good thing.
- Towels – plenty to dry off before flopping on the blanket, and clean ones after that final rinse before leaving.
- Toys – floating toys and balls, can’t forget those 🙂
BEACH SAFETY TIPS –
- Protect their paws – if the sand is too hot for me, then it’s too hot for them. I carry paw wax with me. #justincase
- Don’t over exercise – this is when the blanket and treats come in handy. We rest a great deal between water romps.
- Rinse off after playing – their skin is sensitive and sand can be very irritating. I bring shampoo too! If there is a hand held hose available I’ll do the whole shampoo thing right there. #ohyesIwill
WATER SAFETY TIPS –
- Know your dog in the water – don’t always assume your dog can swim. Never leave them unattended.
- Don’t drink the water – salt water is not meant for consumption. Have plenty of water to discourage the alternative.
- Strong tides – respect them! they are unforgiving.
If you live near (or are visiting) the Isles of Palms and you see a woman wearing an umbilical belt being pulled by two white doodles as she drags two huge bags, balancing a chair, a cooler and a folded up umbrella, it’s okay to laugh.
After all, if I saw me – I’d be cracking up! #likeSteveHarvey
ONE MORE THING! –
Our Rocco & Roxie Liver Treat Give-Away and 20%discount ends at midnight! These are super crunchy tasty treats…
It’s the middle of the week – celebrate ❤️

Important safety tips to help survive this heatwave! Have fun at the beach ♥
July 29, 2016
Thanks M.K. – we had a blast!
July 27, 2016
You need to get someone to take your picture lugging the doodles and all their “stuff” down to the beach. You must be their Cabana Girl 😉
July 29, 2016
Taryn, I was so happy when I saw my nephew. You don’t know. There was no way I would have made it. I probably would have lost almost everything out of the car. Gotta give it up for family!
July 27, 2016
Those sure are the cutest beach bums I’ve seen all summer!
July 29, 2016
The family next to us at the beach said the exact same thing!
July 27, 2016
We love the beach. New smells, sand and seaweeds
Lily & Edward
July 29, 2016
Who eats seaweed? Lily or Edward. I want to know!
July 27, 2016
Have a groovy day at the beach!
July 29, 2016
Thanks Monika – we did. Only had one little hiccup later that day. #beachdiarrhea
July 27, 2016
oh please do a video of you juggling all that on the hot sand.
Cole won’t go near the water at a beach. The first time he saw a beach he thought it was snow and gulped a big mouthful! What a look he gave me!

July 29, 2016
My cabana girl video was spared because my dear nephew carried most of my “stuff” for me. #thankthedoodle If I took a mouthful of sand the first time I saw it, I would be inclined not to want to have anything to do with it after that either. Poor Cole 🙁
July 27, 2016
Stay cool boys! The summer heat is upon us and we do roast easily! A/C is our best friend. I want to go to the beach, it looks so nice.
July 29, 2016
Come on down to SC Emma, Bailey and Jaxson can flop around in the water while you and Harley lounge under the umbrella catching that great beach breeze…
July 27, 2016
It’s been maddening hot here too. It’s been hotter here than down in Barbados!!!!
Love Jax’s doodle down photo. 🙂
My iPhone caught the hazy heat over the weekend when I was pet sitting, I actually thought my lens was fogging up from going from the AC to the oven, but no.
Give them kisses for moi. 🙂

Welcome back Lindsay! At first when I saw the photo I thought I’d broken something in the camera. I couldn’t believe it was from the heat. I cannot wait for this heatwave to move on out of here. Every state seems to be affected. Can’t wait to hear more about your Barbados adventures!
July 27, 2016
I can’t blame the doodles for being a little lazy when it comes to this summer heat. I think the heat causes us all to power off. I hope that you have a great time at the beach! Stay safe in that heat.
July 29, 2016
We tried Ruby, but it was definitely hot out there. Getting to the water line was a challenge, the sand was extremely hot, so we ran most of the way – straight into the water. His paws are fine, and I’ve got paw wax to treat them and make them feel good. He had a blast – played like there was no tomorrow. He has got to be part dolphin! LOL
July 27, 2016
oh Doods, it is kerazy hot here too! Though, our humidity is a little lower, butts we have smoke from the wildfires south of us, so hard to breathe! I wish Ma would take me to the beach! I am so jealous!
Stay cool Doods!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
July 29, 2016
You be safe Ruby with that smoke coming from those fires. We’ll keep all paws crossed that it ends soon.
July 27, 2016
It’s been hot and humid up here in the Chicago area, too. Lots of storms which are also no fun at all!
How in the world do you keep your adorable doodles so nice and clean? Ruby is light colored (more beige) and she gets dirty every time she steps outside. I could bathe her everyday and she would still always have some kind of dirt on her. But your babies always look like they were just groomed and perfect.
July 29, 2016
I’m beginning to think the entire planet is having a heatwave! We’re not getting the storms, but for Charleston SC the month of August brings hurricanes, so I am praying this will be a calm year. I brush the Boys every morning when we return from our walk. I think that’s the secret. They are groomed every two weeks, and if they get into dirt (which they sometimes do) I wash them myself.
July 27, 2016
You guys look like the cutest beach bums ever! 😀 Beach is the best for hot summer days! Especially with dogs! <3
July 29, 2016
Happy Hazel – Jaxson and I love the beach – Harley just tolerates it along with Doodle Dad, that’s why at the last minute I decided to leave the two of them home. Read the following episode “Beach Bum Doodle #thedayafter” and find out what happened. Have a great weekend!
July 27, 2016
That “Doodle Down” pic is too cute. Can’t imagine triple digit heat index! I can barely handle the humidity we’ve had – we’re not used to it here. So spoiled!
We go to the beach about 2 mornings a week – so nice to run/walk down there so Rita can cool off with a dunk in the water.
July 29, 2016
I used to go in the mornings too – thinking I would beat the heat. Not happening anymore. At 7am it’s already 87 degrees #nolie This beach is not too far and unlike where I used to go, dogs are allowed on the beach all day long. The temps have got to break at some point and when they do – I will spend a little more time out there.
July 28, 2016
Which sunscreen do you like? I took Mr. N to the beach yesterday and he had a ball.
July 29, 2016
I’m not home at the moment, so I don’t know the name Mr. N. #sosorry Do you like to swim too?
July 28, 2016
It sounds like the beach is the only place to be! Enjoy, and stay safe (sounds like you’ve already got that covered!).
July 29, 2016
JanK it was so refreshing even if the water was unusually warm.
July 29, 2016
You absolutely crack me up. I love your hashtag / side comments. So much great writing and humor and Doodle Dogs!
July 29, 2016
You are too too kind Jasmine, but we’ll gladly take it LOL Thank you so much for your words. I love to write about the Boys, and it brings me tremendous joy to know others are smiling as they read! Please check out the following post “Beach Bum Doodle #thedayafter” Have a great weekend my friend!
