If ever given the chance, I would ask to change Mr. Webster’s definition of the word “Doodle” to – “pure fun, enjoyment and delight!”
Harley & Leo are always a source of impulsive giddiness and laughter, it’s impossible sometimes to contain myself. Here’s a story to surely make you smile and perhaps even chuckle a little.
It is no secret that I am a huge Barkbox fan. I participate in their affiliate program because I love the whole “box at your door” concept. It works well for us, and for almost a year, we have found many, many products to pamper them, toys to entertain them for hours, and treats they adore and devour.
So when I received an email from them about a contest, I was intrigued. Check it out, take a look at Scout (their mascot)….
SCOUT EXPLAINS THE CONTEST RULES
My mind immediately started racing about concepts, props, etc. I needed something with a doodle twist to it. I also needed to use two dogs vs. one – hmmmm
I came up with an idea – I’d have the doods create a rap song with their own little jingle. I would need props and that NYC “I’m cool” look. So I went with this…
PROBLEM! The glasses kept falling off!
Since this was called “The Golden Bone” contest, I needed to incorporate a golden bone somewhere, so thinking about the 80’s rapper Flavor Flav (remember him? with the big clock on the chain dangling from around his neck?), I switched to the “bone” look…
Of course we needed a “Boom Box” prop, so “Radio Raheem Harley” ran and got his…
We were now ready. After their siesta, we set up our little make shift studio in the backyard, and video taping them didn’t take long at all. Not because they’re that good, because after one recording, they saw a rabbit and as a music producer would say: “it was a wrap!”
Now that I had my footage and I had my music, I still needed my voices. I wanted two distinct sounds. I knew DH would be the pawfect sound for Leo…
And when the doorbell rang, I knew “Doodle Uncle Harvey” would be pawfect as the voice for Harley…
Watching these two men rehearse was incredibly entertaining. They accepted this challenge head on, and treated it like they were contestants on “America’s Got Talent.” They must have had twenty plus “sound checks” before letting me know they were ready to record.
When “they” were happy with what they heard, I was left to blend everything together. I find now when I tell The Boys I have work to do and I retreat to my office upstairs, they lay in front of the door as if they’re my two receptionists – letting the family know – Do not disturb, Doodle Mom’s at WORK…
Hey, I’m not complaining, it helps, I don’t have to hang out a shingle, folks know before they reach the top of the stairs to keep on walking by my door.
So without further delay, it is with great honor that I present to you the finished product.
The 30 second video which we submitted hours before the deadline last week…
Thanks for reading and let me know if this made you smile (even just a little bit!)….
