OLLIE

For several weeks I’ve been talking with the Ollie Organization about their human grade dog food. NOTE: I was never “disappointed” about the food the Boys were eating at the time of these discussions – I simply want the very best for them, like you do for your dogs…

I take my job of keeping them healthy very seriously – as I am sure you do with your dogs too!

Dog food innovations are no different than the never ending evolution of foods we humans consume. Everyone (theoretically) would love to eat smarter and healthier.

Our overall knowledge of what food groups we should consume daily (as well as those we should try to avoid) continues to intensify as we strive to live our best lives.

Nutrition plays a major role.

This thought process has invoked the same level of concentration (some may even think more) when contemplating what foods to serve our dogs…

Can’t wait to tell you about these incredible containers – but those eyes… they kill me!

DIETARY HISTORY –

In Harley’s lifetime (almost eleven years now), he’s only dined on three variations of food –

Kibblebecause I believed the pretty packaging and didn’t think much about what was inside the tiny little nugget until  my grown daughter tried it (yes she did), made a disgusted face and asked “have you tasted this?”

Dehydrated it was the human grade component that appealed to me, however both Boys tired of it after a year.

Air-dried 98% pure protein is good, but I was supplementing fruits and veggies and my portions were getting me in trouble with their Doodle Doc during their weigh-ins. #overweightdoodsinthehouse

Somewhere (I thought) there has to be a dog food, with all the components already there to do away with supplements (like fruits and veggies) for people like me who don’t know what is truly the correct amount. #quiltypleasures

When Ollie reached out, I was so ready to talk!

KEEPING IT REAL –

The whole Ollie – Fresh food methodology was intriguing. Canine nutritionists developing cooking methods and personalizing formulas through algorithms truly peaked my interest.

A dog food that would provide both Dood’s the nutrition they needed with all the convenience I crave, was – super appealing.

Freshly cooked, customized and delivered

Ollie

What more could a Doodle Mom ask for?

Ollie chooses –

  • high quality meat
  • fruits and veggies
  • super foods
  • zero fillers

COLLAR US FLATTERED –

I am very excited (actually giddy) to announce a new relationship between Groovy Goldendoodles and Ollie dog food. The beginning of every month I will share Harley and Jaxson’s nutritional journey with you…

These Dood’s love “the beef.”

Health benefits mentioned on their website state –

more energy, less allergies, shinier coat and healthier weight.

Ollie

I will definitely keep you posted on any and all changes. Harley’s allergies and Jaxson’s weight loss are on the top of my list.

Along with our Ollie updates, please visit our website regularly for discount promo’s, contests, and podcast Q&A’s with the humans behind the packaging answering all our (yours & mine) questions. My goal over the next 10-12 months is to learn and share as much as I can about an ideal meal plan for not only my dogs but yours too!

The Boys are just now finishing up their nine day transition period…

Jax finishes first and waits in hopes that Harley will leave something behind… Nope, nada!

I will share how that works, what their customized vet-crafted meal plan consists of plus I’ll share the “scoop” on their poop – which was a major concern of mine.

Of course we will continue to make your smile, giggle and even chuckle out loud with our other crazy adventures. We’re still busy “being busy” with Doodle romps, pet therapy and life here in pet friendly Charleston.

DISCLAIMER: Groovy Goldendoodles™ is in a sponsored relationship with Ollie. GGD is being compensated for helping spread the word about Ollie dog food, but Groovy Goldendoodles™ will only share information about a product we feel is relevant and beneficial to our readers. We have tried some of these types of foods before, but the problem we have is storing them. There is so much, we would need to buy a freezer to keep it in. Right now we are our own proteins and oil with a dehydrated mix that has all the fruits and veggies. It is a lot of work for Mom, but she feels good about what we are eating. Ollie is something we have not heard of. We look forward to hearing more about it from you boys.

Madison you have truly spoken the truth. But as life would have it, we are really trying not to over shop for groceries like we used to. Sacrificing freezer space is a great way to keep me on track. Initially I had to store half of it at my sister’s house. I no longer have a second freezer, so it caught me off guard. Our second shipment comes this week, I think I’m ready – we’ll see. Hugs to the girls from us boys…

Just thinking of all the different dog foods I’ve had in the house over the years makes my head spin! And a vet-crafted, human-grade, delivered-fresh version is one of them. And, frankly, I got frustrated trying to keep up with it all. So, I spoke with our vet and we came up with a plan. I make Ducky’s food myself now and supplement it with one of the dehydrated brands. That way she gets her vitamin/mineral and probiotic supplements without me having to buy them separately. But if I ever get tired of doing it this way, I’ll check out Ollie’s.

Girlfriend – I know exactly what you mean. It’s incredible all the various versions that are out there. #whew I commend you for preparing Ducky’s food. One day, I just may be in that club. I’m new to the whole fresh food variety – but so far I am loving the convenience, the correct portions (my biggest downfall) and the fact that they love it. Take care – hugs to Ducky!

Congratulations to you, and like our friends above, Dakota tried something similar with another company that offers fresh food custom made, it did NOT agree with him and made him sick. Also, t be sure you aren’t going “grain free” (in reference to the latest FDA report)

Hi Caren – how have you been? Thanks so much for your comment, but I’m on it!

The issue isn’t with the grains in food (or lack of grains), the issue of heart disease is due to the manufacturers replacing the grains with foods (like legumes) in an effort to boost the protein in the dog food.  The problem with using legumes is that our dogs need two amino acids to synthesize taurine, Cystine and Methionine.  Although legumes are high in protein, they do not have the two amino acids that help with processing taurine.  As a result, the dogs are getting less taurine, which is leading to cardiomyopathy.  If you’d like to learn more, read the detailed FDA report that lists brands/food that do not have enough taurine:
      https://www.fda.gov/media/128303/download

The dog food advisor summed it up well – “most of these animals appeared to eat diets that contain high concentrations of plant-based protein “boosters”. These include items like pea protein, dried peas, and potato protein.

      It’s a very interesting read: https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-news/fda-investigating-potential-link-between-diet-and-heart-disease-in-dogs/

Ollie has been vetted by our Doodle Doc, and so far the Boys are loving it. It also smells a-mazing!!

Take care and thanks again for stopping by…
