KODAK MOMENT | MONDAY MISCHIEF

Come a little closer, let me share a little secret –

Lately, I’ve been trying “desperately” to improve my photography skills. Truth be told, BH (Before Harley) I’ve never really had that much interest. Blogging and writing have gotten me excited about it and like millions of others with a camera I too am always searching for that one and only Kodak Moment.

Hands down, Harley is my favorite image when I’m looking through the lens these days.  I love using him as my subject. I’m always hoping, praying, and wishing for that “one and only” picture – and every time I think I’ve got it, I run through the house, like a kid who just spotted the ice cream man, yelling for Doodle Dad: “Hey hon, look at this!”#yesheindulgesme!

I love it when he cooperates!

I love it when he cooperates!

The other day I wanted to use Harley (yes I said “use”) in a series of photos out on the lawn. The fall foliage that covered the ground was exquisite. There was little to no wind and the sky – my goodness, the sky was so blue it didn’t even look real!  Everything was going my way – or so I thought.

But on this particular day, Harley had no intentions of doing anything I asked. He wasn’t having it. Today was his day to do things his way, all day!

Let me tell you what happened –

As soon as we went outside, he grabbed his stick…

Oh, forgive me, are you familiar with the story about Harley and his stick?

BRIEF SYNOPSIS: Months ago while I was gone, Harley and Doodle Dad did some tree trimming in the backyard. He worked very hard that day helping “tote” a few branches from the backyard to the front (well almost) until he came across this one branch. It was “doodle love” at first sight and this branch has now become his favorite source of outdoor entertainment.

He carries it, rolls around with it, does all sorts of tricks, and will spend quality time with this thing. But here’s the problem, I didn’t really want “Mr. Stick” in my series of photos this time!

With the camera up to my nose, focused and ready to take a shot, I tried to explain this to him. Imagine my surprise when I saw him stick his tongue out at me – on purpose #yeshedid

Like an Alvin Ailey dancer cued to the music only he could hear – Harley gave me my Kodak moment, as he and Mr. Stick performed their dance routine for me…

I guess a Kodak moment comes in various ways, not always the way you imagined.

Make today the best day *for somebody else*

Oh I think the photos with Mr. Stick are awesome! I love the dance. My dog Kelsey had a favorite stick once, too.

He really loves that stick….great photos! Harley apparently knew better than you did what you needed! I think sometimes the best photos come when we least expect them. My “photo shoots” rarely go well, but it’s when I’m able to grab the camera to capture some special moments that I didn’t expect, that I often get my best photos.

I agree Jan, I can’t seem to understand anything I read about camera focusing and lens, etc… I’m just going to go with the flow, and love what I see. Translation? Magazines won’t be calling me LOL. Thanks for reading, stop by again soon.

Sometimes Mom has a dumb photo idea, so I show her what I’ve got in mind and she is often pleasantly surprised! What cute photos, Harley!

Is that what you think Harley is doing Emma? Showing me a different approach? Very interesting concept there!

Too funny. Isn’t it frustrating when they have their own plans and don’t want to get with the program, no matter how well we explain it? 🙂 Rita has a favorite stick too. Carried it home from a walk and loves itso much!

Jackie, it’s become his “go to” toy whenever we’re outside in the front of the house. Even the neighbors know not to throw it away – so sad….
