Hurricane preparations are underway here in Doodleville, cause a hurricane is coming.

Been doing my best to keep the Boys as active as possible these last 48 hours. I want them to be exhausted by the time the rain comes. The best way to do this? Lot’s of outdoor activities…

Last night they watched us re-arrange the garage to accommodate lawn furniture and the Doodle Wagon..

Sop far, we’ve seen a drizzle of rain this morning, and all indications are that we will see increased rain and heavy winds late tonight into Saturday.

OUR PLANS? –

Remaining in our home. My dear sweet Infantry/Airborne/ Ranger/Pathfinder husband has made sure we have everything we need. #lovemeasoldier

We do not live in a coastal community. We are north and inland of the downtown Charleston area. So we shall stay put.

CAN DOGS SENSE IMPENDING STORMS? –

Often I’ve heard that dogs can sense when a storm is approaching. It’s not that they are #simplyamazing – it’s scientific. It’s based on barometric pressure –

When the barometric pressure changes and static electricity differs, it is often a sign that a tornado, hurricane or thunderstorm is on the horizon. Dogs feel these changes and will often not only warn the family by trying to herd them into one area but also seek shelter in a small confined space themselves. Source: Canidae

And that’s not all –

• Their sense of smell – allows them to smell rain from a longer distance. 
• Their amazing ears – canine hearing is about 20 times more sensitive than ours. Dogs not only hear thunder before us, they feel the vibrations also.

With such sensitive senses and a basic “animal instinct” born of years of evolution, dogs know when the weather is changing, they prepare for it and they try to warn their people. So while you may see a nice sunny afternoon, your dog knows if the sunshine will be cut off by dark clouds, pouring rain and rumbling thunder. Pay attention and before you know it you’ll be like us, looking to your pup instead of the weatherman to prepare for oncoming storms. Source: Canidae

Right now as I write this post, they are calm as #doodlecucumbers…

The storm is scheduled to reach our area late this evening and remain throughout the night. We’ll pawbably all cuddle in the bed together.
