DOODLE DIARRHEA BLUES

Jax has got the Doodle diarrhea blues.

That’s what I told my boss as I hung up the phone and began to pack up my belongings. It is super doodle rare for the Boys to have any form of stomach issues, so when it happens, I panic. #Leoflashbacks.

Jaxson – DEFINITELY not feeling well…

DOODLE DOWN WITH DIARRHEA

He hadn’t ingested anything odd (my dog ate a sock) in years, and you know me – I haven’t changed their food either.

LIVING THROUGH A RENOVATION –

Trying to make this seem like “home” while preparing to live IN a home renovation project is not that simple.  We’ve got a fraction of our belongings here in the house and while I’ve tried to make this our new normal, pawhaps they don’t quite understand the chaos.

There are many reasons a dog may develop loose stool, but out of all of them – the only one that seems to be even close to the right match would be –

stress or emotional upset

Is the new home, the boxes, the city life, the squirrels, all a bit much for my baby boy?

HOME REMEDIES –

When Harley was a puppy struggling with Giardia, I often reached for the “cures from the cupboard” vs. medication. Using foods as “binders” to normalize stool consistency –

  • Rice water
  • While rice
  • Canned pumpkin
  • Yogurt
  • Probiotics
  • Boiled potatoes (w/o the skin)
  • Cottage cheese
  • Herbs (such as fennel)
  • Specially-formulated dog foods from the vet

While a few of those worked for Harley, they didn’t seem to work well for Jaxson. He still struggled with the bubblies, gas attacks (which scared the doodle out of him – #punintended), and the diarrhea.

PERFECT FORM –

A herbal gastrointestinal supplement to help support proper gastrointestinal and bowel health by The Honest Kitchen is where I went for help…

DOODLE DOWN WITH DIARRHEA

A proprietary blend containing Papaya leaf, plantain leaf, slippery elm, organic pumpkin seed, pectin, papain and fennel.

This supplement comes in a powder. The amount you use is based on weight, matched with equal amounts of water to create a paste…

DOODLE DOWN WITH DIARRHEALicorice! That’s what it smells like. Apparently the taste is appealing because he tries to lick the stainless steel off the bowl!

Jaxson lives in Charleston – but doesn’t care for rice #notnatural He prefers plain spaghetti noodles with his bland, boiled chicken breast meat. #sadiddydoodle

Adding this to his food, twice a day has gently aided in reducing his loose stool due to whatever caused it. It’s a great “go-to” product to have in your cabinet.

You can purchase a canister here.

Our new normal lifestyle is returning. I’ve already started weaning Jaxson back to his regular diet. I am also giving him (and Harley) “all of me” after work. For now the HGTV stuff can wait – the Boys come first #sorrydoodledad…

NOTE –

My boss loves the Boys, and he reads my blog so “paws-up” to him for understanding and allowing me to work from home!

ONE MORE THING –

That area where Jaxson is laying and the Boys are standing is the cutest step down powder room off from the kitchen that my father-in-law designed years ago. I’ve been working in there – trying to decide just what I want to do with it. It’s adorable and the Boys generally hang out on the steps and watch me.

I am one doodle shy of being a crazy dog lady ❤️

A FEW DISCLAIMERS –

  • I am not a veterinarian nor a scientist. I’m a pet parent always interested in understanding more about my dogs, and sharing my findings with you!

      Thanks Carol –
Jaxson’s hair is one #hotdoodlemess! He’s super dirty – filthy actually, but we’ve been loving this extremely warm weather and it’s been dirt grass and beach water. I’m still not giving him complete food from The Honest Kitchen but gradually adding.

I hope Jaxson feels better soon! It’s so hard when our furbabes are ill or out of sorts!
I hope, when the new/old house is finished, you give us a video tour. All your renovations sound exciting.
    Smiles,
    Cheryl

Cheryl – I cannot wait to get started let alone finish. All the people I’ve talked to tell me that it will take about a year. Not what I want to hear, but I’m adjusting to the fact that they’re telling the truth.
Jaxson is doing much better, but the culprit behind the loose poop will forever be a mystery. Can’t seem to figure this one out. Take care my friend.

So sorry Jaxson is experiencing gastric distress. Anise is a GREAT herb for working through that kind of malady. When Sam suffers from his bouts, I also give him Kaopectate which makes him right as rain quicker than a bland diet. Best of luck as you make it through rehab woes. Sending POTP thoughts for your sweet boy.

Now I used to you Imodium but that just makes him vomit. I never thought about Kaopectate – this evenings poop was looking pretty good, and I already added his regular food to his dinner, so it looks like chicken and noodles is a thing of the past! Yippee.

Our beagle Kobi used to have tummy issues from time to time, and we could never pinpoint why. Usually they were short lived though, which was good.
It sounds like you’re on the right track to get Jaxson back to 100%, I’m so glad you had the Honest Kitchen product there to help things along!

    Eno
We just got cooper , who is now 12 weeks old, having same Gi issues with diarrhea.
Just ordered the Honest kitchen herbal supplement . cant wait for it to come in.
Any home remedy suggestions till that comes in.
How was the Kaopectate given to your doodle.?
    Thanks

I never gave Kaopectate to my dogs. Have you tried adding a little white rice? I would first take him to the vet to find out the source of his diarrhea. That is first and foremost what should happen before anything.

    Any suggestions with house training/breaking
    Diarrhea does not help

Potty training is a process. It certainly doesn’t work out all the kinks in 12 weeks. Take him to the Vet to work through the diarrhea and look at the food he is eating. Hang in there and please keep us posted. You can do this – we’ve all been through it and survived. You will too!
