Mail! no matter how it comes (snail or through the air) we love it! – especially when it comes from you! A dog food question caught our attention last week…

DOG FOOD QUESTION

IT READS –

Your dogs look so healthy and I’m having a hard time choosing what to give my own dog because there’s so much information out there – can you tell me why you chose the brand you use? Melody S.

OMDOODLE – YES I CAN! –

Dear Melody,

I understand that overwhelming feeling. I’ve been there. Those first three years Harley suffered with stomach/digestive issues. Things like gas, loose stool, sluggishness and horrible smelling breath inspired me to seek an alternative to what I was dishing up twice a day.

I wanted to feed him something healthy from ingredients I was familiar with, and could pronounce. Through research and the approval of their veterinarian – I chose The Honest Kitchen, a dehydrated “human grade” dog food.

This was about 5 years ago and have never had any regrets…

DOG FOOD QUESTION

Here’s what I consider my staples…

DOG FOOD QUESTION

Embark – a grain free turkey recipe great for adult dogs and puppies. High in protein and antioxidant-rich produce like spinach, coconut, apples, kelp and more.

Love – a grain free beef recipe that’s also good for both puppies and adult dogs. This was perfect when Leo and Jaxson came along – one food for both stages! Made for performance so it’s high in both protein and calories. Made with ranch raised beef, and parsley, chard, papaya, pumpkin and honey.

Zeal – a grain free fish recipe which is new in our kitchen. High in protein but LOW in calorie, and LOW in fat. This is recommended for both adult and senior dogs. Now that I have one of each in my house, I’m looking at calories as they both age. #doodlewaistlines This certified white fish (cod) introduces novel proteins along with cabbage, sweet potatoes, bananas, salmon and other antioxidant-rich produce. #productreviewcomingsoon

Goats Milk – a healthy probiotic is always great to have on hand.

Bone Broth – seems to be a crowd pleaser when I use it to hydrate their food. 95% beef  broth with a little parsley, pumpkin and turmeric to make it tasty and health beneficial.

Nuzzles -Harley looses his #doodlemind over these heart-shaped duck and cherry cookies. Low calorie, wheat-free with a drizzle of virgin coconut oil. He’s hooked on these little gems. #oneaday

RESULTS I’VE NOTICED –

Harley has the stamina and energy of a youngster. He can hang with Jaxson all day long. His digestion improved and has never given him a lick #punintended of discomfort since. Both Boys have healthy skin and coats – despite those nasty environmental allergens.

I trust The Honest Kitchen

All ingredients are processed in the USA in a human grade food processing facility. They are non geneticcally modified and free of any chemicals & preservatives. All meat is hormone ad antibiotic free. Source: The Honest Kitchen

Although I no longer use The Honest Kitchen, I do love their Beams and their mussels (or the dogs do). I purchased a case of the mussels recently and it’s almost gone!

It’s so amazing that you’re teaching people how to feed their dogs healthier.

Food choices can definitely be overwhelming! While I”m content where I’m at right now, I know it’s not where we’ll be staying. I just haven’t figured out where we’re going next.
This is definitely a company high on my list – so we’d love to try that 2 lb. box!

My mom is going to switch us from kibble to dehydrated food. We are looking at three brands, two of them we have tried, the third is the Honest Kitchen. We would love to give it a try with the 2 lb sample Most likely we will do a rotation of a couple brands, but we like to try food first since it isn’t exactly cheap and Mom wants to make sure we like it. [email protected] You doodle boys and your mom are awesome!

Your boys get some great food! Honest Kitchen makes highly nutritious pet foods. I wish my cats would be more open to them. I keep trying to get them to eat them. Dogs seem to be much more open to the rehydrated foods. I love the quality though!

That looks great. When we got Max I did a bit of research into his food, but I still don’t love it. I found a recipe that works great for him, but with his size, making food is just not affordable. In the search for a better food I have actually been doing some research on dry dog food labels and holy moly I agree with the overwhelming part!!! I would love to sample the honest kitchen food and see how my boy does. Anything I can do to keep him happy and healthy as long as possible (and preferably forever 🙂 ). Thank you so much for sharing this!

I love my doodle & I am very concerned about his nutrition. He will not eat dry food & has been eating grass regularly now for almost a month & has just started eating dirt. Dog food products have me totally perplexed & I am on overload reading what is best. He is 4 1/2 weighs about 65 lbs.im also worried about the amount of bowl movements he has per day. Sometimes as many as 5 times a day. Help! Would love to try a sample & get him on a healthy diet!
