“YOU’VE GOT MAIL”

Years ago, my computer would announce “you’ve got mail” whenever an email dropped into my inbox. #Imdatingmyself

The app is long gone, but I still look at Harley when an email arrives from the website – smile and tell him –

Harley, we’ve got mail…

"YOU’VE GOT MAIL"

If someone were to ask me to share my highlights of being a pet blogger – receiving email would definitely make the list. I love the friendly interaction, and the satisfaction of sharing what I’ve learned.

DEAR CATHY –

Am half-heartedly looking for a doodle to rescue…we lost ours Feb 22 2016…and I want a dood in my life…am leery of the heartbreak. If you know any in Colorado that need rescuing, send them my way. Doodles are few and far between here. I called mine a Poodle-a-dor because EVERYONE has a labradoodle. I love the pics on your website! Keep sharing the doodle love!

KJ

Dear KJ –

I am so sorry for your loss.  The connection between a human being and a pet is a bond unique to itself. Losing Leo was like losing a limb. I knew I was going to live through it – but life was never going to be the same. I would have to adapt and adjust and move forward. My prayer is that you are able to find your way too.

To be leery and feel half-heartedly when thinking of bringing another Doodle into your life is what I believe to be the normal emotional roller-coaster one experiences with the loss of a pet.

Grieving and healing is different for everyone. For some, opening up to love another dog quickly is just what the doctor odered. For others, it’s not that simple, and for a few it never happens again. Only you will know what’s best for you.

Please make sure you are ready. It’s a huge commitment and you need not be leery or afraid.

DOODLE ADOPTION –

I support the International Doodle Owners Group (IDOG Rescue). They’ve been operating since 2006 and I sincerely recommend them for Doodle adoption…

"YOU’VE GOT MAIL"

IDOG is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) group of volunteers dedicated to the protection of Labradoodles and Goldendoodles.

They operate a foster-based rescue and work with shelters around the country to ensure that doodles who end up in shelters are pulled as quickly as possible.

Meet Kate Singleton…

"YOU’VE GOT MAIL"

Kate has been involved with fostering for 4 years and working with IDOG for the past 3 years. She’s personally fostered 12 doodles during that time.

We met in the summer of 2014. I interviewed her for an article on Canine Megaesophagus. Harley and Leo met her “Mega E” Doodle Willie…

"YOU’VE GOT MAIL"

The many dedicated people affiliated with IDOG have the passion, patience and love that it takes to champion for each and every Doodle who comes their way.

Whenever I am asked about Doodle adoption, I quickly refer them to IDOG. I trust this organization. I believe in what they do.

THE IDOG MISSION –

Once the house is renovated I hope to be an IDOG client myself. I would love to open my heart and home to a 3rd Doodle #donttelldoodledad

KJ, I hope this information was helpful to you. Thanks so much for reaching out. Please keep in touch.

Always, Cathy

ONE MORE THING –

The calendar shoot earlier in the month #savethepuppies was a huge success. Photographer Jeanne Taylor is now Jaxson’s new main Doodle squeeze #theygotathinggoingon...

Here is one of the photo’s Jeanne placed on her FB page, #prouddoodlemom

That’s a gorgeous picture! Someday I want a better camera, and I want to take a photography class. I love photographing my collies, and sometimes I get lucky, but I want to do so much more.

I wish like the Doodle that I was able to take photos like the rest of my family. Their pictures are magazine quality but I can’t seem to master it. For every one photo I share on the blog, there were dozens of the same pose that went in the trash. Too funny and sad at the same time.

    Hi Cathy,

Spent the weekend reading all your previous blogs since I am a newcomer to your site. It has been so therapeutic and helpful. I feel I have learned so many helpful ideas that will be beneficial when we decide to get our next doodle. Thank you for your insights and sharing your doodles with the rest of us.

Hi Pat – what a lovely thing to tell me. It warms my heart. I so want to share them with the world because they bring enormous joy to everyone they come around. I love to know that people are enjoying them. Happy to hear you’re thinking about getting a Doodle (or is this another Doodle for you?). Please continue to hang out with us, and I am always willing to talk “Doodle” whenever you need to. Take care..

And they miss you too Dixie. We haven’t been back to VA yet! Will try to put that into our late summer / fall plans – when we do, I will definitely give you a call. Hugs to Hera from me 🙂

So many wonderful dogs in rescue. Here’s hoping that everyone finds their forever pup. <3

Aww Willie! I love reading about Mega-E sweeties. For the most part it is manageable but you need dedicated, loving pet owners that know what it’s all about and how to best help their friend. Frankly I think their chairs are adorable! 🙂
