What in the doodle would you do if the little boy (from next door) whose loved your dogs for years…
…and has spent years dreaming about having his own dog asks you:
“Hey, Ms. Cathy, Finley’s coming home on Friday and I’ve written down a few notes on what to do. Can I share them with you?”
SIDE NOTE –
For those of you who haven’t met “Finley” – please read A NEW PUPPY.
BACK TO MY STORY –
Since I was about to take my last walk of the day, I told Marshall to come with me. I figured we could do…
He brought his “notes.” I smothered a chuckle when I saw the stack of 3×5 memo cards in his hands. He had quite a few – so I decided on the M walk.
WHAT’S THE “M” WALK? –
Like T-Shirt sizes the Boys and I have three different walks:
S / M / L
SORRY, BACK TO MY STORY, AGAIN –
He read his notes. Most of his concerns wouldn’t be applicable until Finley was much older – like having her teeth professionally cleaned 🙂
It didn’t take me too long to realize while he was excited about his puppy’s arrival, he had also worked himself into a frenzy surfing the net, overloading on information, confusing himself AND me.
Our “M” walk allowed him to get through all his questions. It was an impressive conversation for an eleven year old I thought, as I waved goodbye watching him hop through his front door.
The following day, I took him a personalized reference book filled with photos of him, Harley and Jax. It had a couple of reminders of things he’s learned how to do over the years with my Boys.
It was designed to help him remember, this wasn’t exactly his first “Doodle rodeo” and in time he would be confident and comfortable handling Finley.
Here is an online flip book version of his book –
