THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

By Wednesday, August 12, 2015 26 Permalink

I know we’ve been MIA from social media a bit lately #forgiveus But that’s because I’ve been learning how to let my hair down and maximize the dog days of summer from non other than…

1

Thanks to Jax – I now know how to incorporate whimsical fun into my days, embracing this heatwave vs. running from it.

I’m trying to mimic Jax  – he just lives for the moment…

2

And right now his moment involves water. Doesn’t matter if it’s from a creek, a bucket or a hose – as long as it’s wet!

This particular afternoon we invaded a friends pool #yeswedid

While Jax is a maniac near H2O, Harley prefers the beach. Any body of water that Harley can see down to the bottom of is of no interest to him. Therefore around pools –  he’s mainly a spectator… #alldaylong

4

Not getting in. No matter how hot… #missionimpossible

5

Jax on the other hand remembered everydoodlething he learned at OTPR – and swam like his momma was a dolphin…

3

This summer has been filled with so many wonderful surprises #soblessed #sharingsoon

Doodle kisses ❤️ to my instructor – he’s making this one of my best summers ever…

How’s your summer going?

Love it! Glad to see your little furry fish having a great summer! For Harley, you might try out a “floaty boat” (a special raft that he can float around in and stay cool, even if he’s too intimidated to swim in the clear water). It works for us, anyway! We really like the “Swimways Float Paddle Paws” raft, available through Amazon. You’d need the large for Harley (or Jax).

What a splendid idea Amanda – never thought about that! I’m going to check it out – thanks

I’m trying to carve out just a teeny tiny piece of this chaotic world just for me. Sometimes you’ve just got to grab it!

Hey AJ – Jax is a hot mess! He is so comical, all you can do is laugh – everyday. How are you?

Living in the moment during the summer is especially important though not always easy. We discovered that Ruby doesn’t like water …brought her with us on a road trip to the ocean and she wanted nothing to do with the water, beach, sand, etc.

PAWhaps Ruby is more fond of hiking than swimming. I haven’t been to the ocean yet this summer, hope to get there for an afternoon in September when I’m in Charleston for our daughters wedding. The beach is my happy place – I love it!

Yes, we’ve missed you! But so glad to hear that you’re having a great time! We’re also more suffering with the heat than enjoying it… Pedro’s idea of enjoying Summer is to go to “The Cool Room” (the bedroom that he graciously shares with us) and bask in the A/C…!
Such a joy to see Jax enjoying the pool and swimming like a dolphin-doodle!
Funny, same as Harley, Pedro is not too fond of pools but loves lakes, beach and ocean, creeks and rivers.
Love it that they have different dog-onalities and preferences!
    Loving paws!

We too have had some record breaking heat waves. It’s been unbearable at times. I can always tell when it’s too hot because Harley will decline a mid-day walk and when Jax goes out there is no goofing around. He does his “business” and comes right back inside. The pool is a great treat – and we’re all exhausted once it’s over. Can’t wait to do it again! Stay cool – and have a great weekend 🙂

Jax is so funny! It’s great that he loves water and loves to swim. He is so much fun! It looks like he is doing a great job getting you in the water too.

Robin – Jax is a dose of everything I needed. He was tailor made for me and the rest of the family. Harley is still the big brother, but he’s more accommodating now that Jax is bigger than him LOL

It’s so great to see you and Jax enjoying the summer and getting in the water! It’s too bad Harley won’t enjoy it too, but that just shows what different personalities the same breed can have! Each to his own, right?
Now my crew is wishing we had a friend with a swimming pool! 🙂 Keep enjoying…summer is too short and will be over before we know it.

Harley had fun running “around” the outside of the pool and eating hotdogs! He was making his own fun. If I picked him up and put him in the water he’d be fine but Doodle Dad wasn’t with me, and I didn’t trust myself with two floating doodles and no jacket.

How fun for Jax! What a great sport, or sports dog! Looks like a great summer. Hope your house has sold so you don’t have to deal with showing along with everything else!

Jax made such an impression – we’ve been asked to come back again next week (really hot temps all week long) – can’t wait.

I can’t believe how big he is now. I’m curious if Scout would jump in a pool. He’s our swimmer. Now that J has a excavator, Scout’s ponds are just around the corner.

So I’ve seeing Doodles everywhere in our town. So I think of you every day 🙂

WOW! Your very own pond – that is super cool. Oodles of Doodles in your town has got to have everyone smiling 🙂

Yes, I was just thinking today that these summer days are going to be over soon and I need to do more sitting on the deck and relaxing too. Enjoy!

OMDoodle Elaine – just do it! You will feel so liberated. I’m even writing a book!!!! I never would have believed how much fun I (as an adult) could have going against the grain. I’m a mini rebel this summer LOL To hell with cooking!

Harley isn’t the only one that doesn’t like to be in the water. Misha, my Jack Russell Terrier, tries very hard never to get wet. When we go on walks, she takes wide turns around lawns with sprinklers going. And, she runs if you turn on a water hose.

What I find simply amazing is watching Harley at the beach. That body of water makes him go nuts. He loves it – the sand, the waves, the calm water after the wakes. He’s always in the water when we’re at the beach. So I guess he is one of those dogs that simply doesn’t like water when he can see the bottom.

It’s been a year since Leo left me for the Rainbow Bridge, and I was afraid of the summer blues. But Jax is a gift from Leo to show me it’s okay to be happy. This summer is a blast for sure…

Catching up on some of your posts. Jax is so cute when he’s sopping wet! Good for you, taking some time off to just enjoy the summer! I thought about taking this week off of blogging… and then I got all panicky and couldn’t do it. Nutty.

Rita is the same as Harley. No way would she get in that deep water! 🙂

Jackie, I’ve got so much going on in my life right now, but I don’t think I could take any time off from blogging. It just doesn’t seem natural 🙂 #nuttyindeed So I settled for neglecting everything else LOL to hang out with the dogs and still blog. #ourlife #thebest
