As many of you may already know, Harley & Jax have been helping Doodle Dad and his Fraternity for several weeks with a shoe drive. #happyfeet
The long awaited weekend to provide free quality footwear to those in need finally arrived (April 17th & 18th).
We had a lot to do, but Harley would not be in attendance for Friday. He submitted a vacation request form days before. You see he doesn’t miss his regularly scheduled Friday playdate at Olde Towne Pet Resort for any reason 🙂 #shoedriveincluded
Jax would have to represent the four legged employee’s union alone…
We dropped Harley off in time for whatever activity happens there at 8:00am, then we were off to transport 18 extra large packing boxes (filled with approx. 65 shoes each) from our garage to the shoe shop location.
Having a landscaper as a next door neighbor definitely has it’s advantages. Kevin Hammond not only supplied the truck, he rolled up his sleeves and worked. A special bark and tail wag to him for sharing his afternoon AND letting Jax be in charge of the barking parking lot…
Our church was the pawfect location for the shoe drive. We’re blessed with a huge Family Life Center that made unloading and setting up a breeze…
For hours willing workers dragged, set, and dressed tables. Hundreds of shoes were methodically arranged by style, size and color. #lookoutNordstroms
Jax even tried his best to help. He moved one boot around the room for hours. And once his mission was completed, he retired right in the middle of everything…
There were sections of ladies dress shoes, children shoes and young adult athletic wear, it was inspiring and uplifting to see it all come together…
For all of our readers who:
- lived close enough to donate
- mailed shoes to us
- shared this event through their social media methods
This is what you helped create – a true shoe emporium for those in need… #blessing
From the bottom of the soles of so many feet we appreciate your support #doodletastic
I’m still in awe that all of these shoes were stashed in my garage!
Since Harley was away for the entire day, and Jax worked like a doodle for 6 straight hours, I decided to forego staying with Doodle Dad and Company for the Friday evening opening.
Instead I voted on letting the two of them play together before nightfall. Then off to bed because Saturday would be a busy day.
78 degrees and a bright sun over head, it just made sense to host day #2 of Operation #happyfeet outside the building…
We had plenty of help:
- friendly greeters
- shoe stock employees
- sales associates in their purple attire
Traffic was steady throughout the day…
…of very grateful customers…
So What’s Next?
Doodle Dad has met with/spoken to a number of agencies that are super excited to receive quality footwear. As I stated before – there is a tremendous need in this world for shoes, and we are excited to be able to help.
As the boys and I tagged along with Doodle Dad over the past several weeks, we’ve met some incredible people doing amazing things for others. It’s made such an impact in all our lives.
Harley’s been recruited as a therapy dog at one of the homeless shelters. #truestories They house families and presently have many children living there who would love to spend time with him. #hesatrueblessing #lovemydoodle

Sharing this experience with all of you has left an indelible mark in my heart…
I really don’t think life is about the I-could-have-beens. Life is only about the I-tried-to-do. I don’t mind the failure but I can’t imagine that I’d forgive myself if I didn’t try. – Nikki Giovanni

What an accomplishment! It sounds like the event was a great success and Jax helped too by showing that pairless boot some love. Way to go!
April 20, 2015
Thanks Elaine, the success continues! We’re taking today off – hanging out with the Boys today and then we will start dropping off shoes to various agencies. I finally took the boot away from Jax, although it was cute to watch the LAST thing I want is to have a doodle with a shoe fetish in my house LOL
April 20, 2015
This has been amazing all the shoes you have gotten. Our running store collects used running shoes, but it is nothing like what you guys are doing. Way to go!
April 20, 2015
Thanks Emma, I commend your running store for collecting shoes – that’s a great idea for a retail establishment. All shoe stores should follow that practice!
April 20, 2015
It looks like it was very successful! Way to go! Helpful Jax is so adorable.
April 20, 2015
Jax was really very well behaved and didn’t pee on the floor once! That’s impressive, believe me!
April 20, 2015

I love that photo of the fluffy one crashed out in the middle of the floor!
It looks like you had an amazing event, and what a wonderful cause. Brava!
April 20, 2015
Jean – that fluffy one was literally no good the rest of the day. He ran around with that one shoe like he stole something (which in essence he did!) and when he crashed it was over – lights out! Too funny!
April 20, 2015
Awesome you guys are a blessing to those in need may God continue to bless you abundantly.
April 20, 2015
Thanks Laverne – I love it when God uses me.
April 20, 2015
You guys are amazing! What a great job. And I can see by Jax’s exhaustion that it was a lot of hard work! Well done!!
April 21, 2015
Jax was too pooped to do much of anything after that! PAWfect situation if you ask me!
April 20, 2015
WOW, how cool, and those were indeed a lot of shoes!! What a perfect socialization environment for little Jax, too 🙂
April 21, 2015
Exactly Barbara – Jax is getting all the socialization in at the right age too!
April 20, 2015
Incredible! Great job you guys! 🙂
April 21, 2015
