A NEW PUPPY

Friday, I went to Pennsylvania to pick up a new puppy. An 8 week 8.5 lb female Goldendoodle named Finley…

DSCN2091

She’s a Second Generation “Backcross” Goldendoodle –  (F2B).

TRANSLATION –

She’s the result of a Goldendoodle (F1) bred to a Goldendoodle backcross (F1b). Technically speaking – she’s a second generation dog.

  • 1st generation pup – Golden Retriever x Poodle – F1 (Harley & Jaxson)
  • 1st generation pup – Goldendoodle x Poodle – F1b
  • 2nd generation pup – Goldendoodle backcross x Goldendoodle – F2B

The 2nd generation pups are – recommended for families with moderate to severe allergies due to their wavy or curly coats.

That’s why Finley is a perfect match for my neighbors! Marshall has mild allergies, yet is not symptomatic around the Boys. (more on hypoallergenic pets coming soon)

WAIT!

#holdup

Did you think Finley was for me? #nowayjose

For the past two years, you’ve read posts and looked at pawdorable photos of my little human friends from next door with Harley, Leo and now Jax…

DSCN8507

And for over a year Marshall and Mason have been –

  • My constant walking companions
  • The Boys human BFF’s, and
  • A pain in the doodle to their parents about getting their own.

So after much deliberation, family meetings, research, prayer, and patience –  this weekend, it finally happened.

Collar me flattered, because I went too!

I love these three photos because I think all pet parents have been here.

  1. Remember this look? When that first wave of excitement over whelms you, and a gazillion #thatsalot thoughts are doing zoomies in your head?

DSCN2082

2.   Then you #womanup and reaffirm “doodle-dog-gone-it” this IS what you want in your life at this EXACT moment, and you start to feel like ice cream, Christmas, and a new pair of heels all at the same time?…

DSCN2084

3.    OR – even though you’re knocking on 40’s door – you cast your maturity over the fence, plop down on the grass and play like your 10 years old again…

DSCN2099

Marshall and Mason stayed with their Grandmother while the adults took the trip. When they saw Finely for the first time – I had to turn away, it brought tears to my eyes #Imapunk

DSCN2092

I watch AGT every week. #talentaddict I applaud from my couch when a judge slaps the golden buzzer which places an act straight through to Radio City Music Hall…

Last week, Finley won the golden buzzer when she met these two…

DSCN2097

ONE MORE THING –

I love traveling by car to new and different parts of this beautiful country. And if my road less traveled takes me off the highway, that’s even better.

Passing through a small town somewhere between MD and Penn, the car grew silent as we noticed banners on every light pole.

They were honoring their “hometown heroes” from almost every conflict.  While my face beamed as I thought “what a special gesture” – my heart ached because every pole was taken…

DSCN2073

It touched us deeply – so I wanted to share.

Caren – what memories of that day. I will never forget it. I got “goosies” standing there watching them fall in love. Harley & Jax haven’t played with her yet, still waiting for vet’s approval and also for her to get situated to all of her many new surroundings. We’re being patient and respectful – but it ain’t easy LOL

HA! Deirdre, that isn’t a bad idea. A parade would be fun – I’m sure all the neighborhood kids would love that LOL. She’s adorable, and full of energy even at her age.

Picture me smiling and tearing up while reading your post. Thank you so much Cathy for being there every step of the way. Finley is loved and I’m so proud and thankful to see all my boys (including hubby) jump right in to play with her, love on her, feed her and yup- even take on do-do duty.

What a Wonderful story for this Beautiful Monday Morning. I must admitt, you really Got Me with “A New Puppy” lol… I said Oh myGoodness she’s done it again LOL I am truly Happy for Marshall & Mason, I know they are Over the Moon Happy. I’m settling back for all of the Good Adventures that are coming our way through your great Stories. Thanks Cathy and, Welcome, Finley

    • Cathy Bennett
      August 3, 2015

I hope to have many stories of Finley and the Boys. So far they have only barked through the fence. I wanted to wait for her vet appointment and also for her to get acclimated to her new surroundings and family BEFORE I released the “maniac” Jax on her! The Boys were greeters last Sunday!

    August 3, 2015

What a tease! I was really thinking you were building our own herd of doodles.

Lucky Marshall and Mason. They’re so good with your pups I know they’ll be great with Finley. And lucky for us, we’ll probably get to see pictures? Right? Right?

And yes, it’s touching to see memorials for people lost. I only wish we could stop creating so many opportunities to memorialize people. #prayforpeace

      August 3, 2015

I had you in mind Pamela when I chose that title LOL. I wish I had the $$$ for a herd of doodles. I am over the moon happy for this family. They have really waited for the right time, and they are all beaming. The memorials were bitter sweet, I agree with your sentiment.

    August 3, 2015

Look out boys! You may not get much attention anymore from those kids, but you now have some very cute tail to chase in your neighborhood! Oh rats, I think your mom said you guys are moving? Maybe you won’t be around to chase her after all?

    • Cathy Bennett
      August 3, 2015

They promised Harley & Jax that they wouldn’t forget them. So far – they haven’t. Actually they walked with me yesterday afternoon.

I love seeing people come together with their dog or dogs. What an amazing story. Love the pictures. I’m having puppy fever right now – I would love to have another dog in our home, but I’m keeping smart about it, because I know now isn’t the time. But someday 😀

    • Cathy Bennett
      August 3, 2015

This is especially special for me, because when I first met these people they thought they would never have a dog because of their son’s allergies. They’ve come a long way, and they love their little Finley so much. I like having her next door – she’s already been over to play with the boys. So cute. So that takes care of my puppy fever 🙂

Thank you Cathy and to your neighbours for sharing the beautiful news with us, avid followers of the Groovy Goldendoodles! 😉
All the best, I’m sure you’ll tell them, but I hope they enjoy Finley’s puppyhood, it goes by so fast!

When I first saw your title, I thought you had lost your mind! LOL. We always have to get the full story now, don’t we, before jumping to conclusions!
What wonderful ambassadors Harley and Jax are for their breed if a goldendoodle is exactly what the neighbors wanted after spending so much time with them.
Of course, I am not really one bit surprised! 🙂
