On Saturday, dogs ruled Splash Island Waterpark in Mount Pleasant, SC. and Jaxson was all up in the mix…Community pools were “pulling the plug” for the year this weekend.
Charleston County Parks opened the gates allowing dogs to swim before draining the pools. I tried to purchase tickets last year (a month in advance), but they were #allsoldout
I found that hard to believe because they had a 300 dog capacity limit!
That’s right – 300 DOGS!…Imagine all those pups – enjoying a –
- pawsome 200-foot body flume
- 16 foot otter slide
- spray, geyser & raindrop waterfalls
- cyclone swirling water ride
- activity pool
And a giant tortoise to fall in love with…
HOW WAS IT? –
It was Doodletastic!
Of course ALL 300 dogs weren’t there at one time. The puppy pool pawty hours were from 12-5pm, plenty of time for folks to come in shifts…I opted to make this a #dolphindoodledate
Jaxson is my aqua buddy. The two of us love the water. So it made sense for he and I to spend a few hours at Splash Island Waterpark…I was a bit skeptical when we first arrived. As soon as we stepped inside the park he seemed lost without Harley #halfadoodle…I let him take his time, I didn’t rush or force him.
We stood together in the shallow water like the #newkidsontheblock
I watched him intently. He wasn’t “afraid” just seemed lost (a bit).
Slowly I saw that twinkle in his eyes return, and he started his “dolphin games” in the water…Before long he ventured away from me (not that far) and I followed him around…I did remember to bring a ball, which afforded him endless diving opportunities…Imagine my proud Doodle Mom moment when he “took” himself over to the big pool and swam a few laps! #Iwantapool
ALL THOSE DOGS –
I’ll admit – initially my biggest concern centered around all those dogs “off leash” in one area. But there was no need to worry.
We were there for a little over two hours, and every dog must have been an obedience school honor roll student.
No growling, no fighting- just a pool filled with pawfect pups!…Jaxson even made a few friends…It was a quiet ride back.
Windows were down, Marvin Gaye and I were singing “Let’s Get It On” while the warm summer breeze, my duet, and the motion of the car rocked Jax to sleep…I congratulate (and thank) the organizers for putting this event together. If you’re like me #superpetprotective, then you know these are not easy activities for “us” to attend.
I definitely plan to go back next year!
It was so much fun!
Lifeguards, and a fully staffed vet clinic on site for any/all emergency issues was a really nice touch! #impressive
HOW WAS HARLEY WHILE WE WERE GONE? –
He was upset……because he was prompted!
Which led me to examine just how closely connected dogs and human emotions are with one another.
Do come back on Wednesday for #therestofthestory
How was your weekend?
Okay it’s Monday – Time to Sparkle & Shine!
September 12, 2016
Dogs ruled for sure!! Great day for baby Jax!!! I bet he snoooooozed away the drive home and maybe a part of the afternoon. I just love the pictures. And that Harley… acting all put upon … what a silly big brother!
September 12, 2016
Jaxson slept hard on the ride home. I was cracking up. When I called his name – he only opened his eyes, he wouldn’t even lift his head.
September 12, 2016
What a fun event for pups and peeps!
September 12, 2016
It was, the humans were really friendly. I like talking to other pet parents, it’s like living on a planet where everyone feels the same way about dogs! It’s great!!
September 12, 2016
Awwe poor Harley baby. Jax looks like he’s having a freaking blast! He is ONE with the water, isn’t he? The one thing I always worry about is getting knocked over from a running back dock that’s just too excited to stop in time before knocking me down. So far that’s never happened but with that many dogs, you always have to wonder.
I was away this past weekend and pups were at my mom’s, so we didn’t get to take the dogs to the local pool before it closed, which is fine because they boys aren’t in love with swimming so I suppose it’s no skin off their back. I just love seeing all the dogs so happy, running around and the best part: the hardcore, snoozefest that follows.
Did Harley forgive you when you got home??
September 12, 2016
Jaxson had a great time, and yes Harley was furious. I think it’s karma. You should see him almost laugh at Jaxson every Tuesday when we leave for the Children’s Hospital. Jax gets only a few opportunities to go somewhere with me all by himself – and Harley’s got to “get over it!” Wait till Wed, when I tell the rest of the story! #badDad Yep – he slept good in the car and later that evening. Harley warmed up later. It’s all good…

OMD! Bailie would have just loved that. She loves the water. I do too, but I wouldn’t be wild about having all the other dogs romping around. What a fun time!
September 12, 2016
This was right up Bailey’s alley! You and Harley could have hung out at the house until we came back!
September 12, 2016
Wow – what a cool place to be able to take your dog!!!
September 12, 2016
It really was a wonderful experience. I had never been before and I loved watching Jaxson play in the water.
September 12, 2016
Oh my word that is so awesome. You look like a bunch of kids
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
September 12, 2016
They acted like a bunch of kids too! So much fun to watch!
September 12, 2016
Jaxson really looks like he had a blast, and wore himself out completely! One of our local pools does this every year too but we’ve never gone.
September 12, 2016
Oh I think your crew would have a blast – you should take Cricket next year!
September 12, 2016
OMD! What a fur~tastic time! I wish that our water park would do something like that. I am so glad that you and Jaxson attended. I’m sure Harley was snoring it up the entire time you were gone. ♥
September 13, 2016
MK I never went in VA, but I’m so happy that I decided to go this year. Great group of dogs, fun interactive humans, more that enough space (even for all those dogs) and Jaxson had a blast. I will certainly go next year – may have to bring Harley & Doodle Dad too! Harley was sitting by the front door waiting for us when we pulled into the driveway!
September 13, 2016
This looks like heaven. We don’t have anything like that here. Of course, I live in a town with a ton of lakes so maybe that’s why.
Your pictures look like you’re at a resort for dogs.
September 13, 2016
The entire time I was there – I thought of you. I was like “Kimberly needs to be here next year visiting me.” You would have been the only one rolling around with Jaxson and the other dogs, laughing and giggling like crazy!
September 13, 2016
Love the pics, looked like such a good time! Can’t wait to hear the Harley story. 😉
September 15, 2016
I just found out this past weekend that there’s a water park around here that does the same thing. Ifid known, I’d have taken Shadow. (Ducky’s not comfortable with strangers around her mama.) Maybe next year…
September 15, 2016
WONDERFUL!!!! Yes, place it on your calendar and check it out! PS: Don’t forget to take and share pics!
