Memorial Day – First observed in 1868, was called Decoration Day. A day set aside to honor the 600,000 U.S. men and women who died in the Civil War. Millions more have served since, and many of them have made the ultimate sacrifice…
Celebrated annually in May, Memorial Day is a day known to remember those who died while serving their country in the United States Armed Forces. Many people will enjoy this day off and barbecue, go to the beach, or just relax spending the day with friends.
Whatever your decision on “how” you choose to spend Monday, May 26th – please take some time to remember, reflect, teach or discuss the historical significance attached to this day…
Traditionally on the Sunday before the Monday of the Memorial Day Observance, DH, myself, some friends and hundreds of motorcyclists converge on the Pentagon Parking Lot ready to participate in “Rolling Thunder”…
Rolling Thunder has grown into the worlds largest single-day motorcycle event, with riders from around the nation and even around the world. They continue to bring awareness and attention to the POW/MIA issue.
This year though, as they celebrate their 25th Anniversary I will not be riding in Rolling Thunder. Instead, the Boys and I will take it easy this weekend, and do what we do best – play, romp, eat ice cream and get dirty…
We also have a few areas of therapy training to work on since becoming certified therapy dogs. I am “over the top” proud of them, but I’d like to continue practicing and reinforcing. Don’t worry – we’ll have fun with it…
And after spending close to thirty years as an Army spouse, I can’t imagine ANYTHING better than sharing what we’ve learned and all this doodle love with soldiers, veterans, and their families…
Have a safe and wonderful holiday…

Thanks Ann, Motorcycles are another passion that I have, second to Doodles of course. That’s actually how Harley got his name.

Happy Memorial Day! Mom loves hearing it called Decoration Day as it reminds her of one of her favorite people ever, her great Aunt Edith that used to tell stories about the old days, the “service”, Decoration Day. She passed on in 1983, but Mom will never ever forget her.

Wow Emma – not many people now a days associate Memorial Day with the word Decoration Day. Your Mom’s Great Aunt Edith sounds like a very special lady indeed.
