BIZARRE BEHAVIOR | WEIRD WEEKEND

One word comes to mind when I think about how to describe Harley’s bizarre behavior this weekend…

This is the last picture I took before the "Harley Storm" blew in.

This is the last picture I took before the “Harley Storm” blew in.

Wednesday and Thursday were about as normal as ever in our little subdivision we call “Doodleville.” Thursday evening DH started packing in preparation for an early Friday morning flight. Given Harley’s dislike for suitcases, he didn’t seem remotely fazed or concerned.

After we left the airport. I dropped them off at Olde Towne Pet Resort before heading home. Friday is my “clean the house while the boys are at doggie day camp” day.

Perhaps Harley:

  • didn’t get enough sleep Thursday night
  • didn’t want DH to walk into the airport as we drove away
  • didn’t want to go to camp that day (that’s a stretch but I thought I’d add it in)

Whatever ignited the following chain of events, caused a domino effect, Harley spun out of control, and the weird weekend in Doodleville was underway!

Imagine my surprise when I saw “Mr. Pawfect’s” report card had a blemish on it….

Harley? snapping? that's a first.

Harley? snapping? that’s a first.

I was speechless. My “Harley Darley” is alway such a model camper. There was more – “Leo also seemed more reserved”, Leo? He’s a lot of things but never “reserved” at camp. As I drove home I convinced myself that maybe I woke them up too early, and maybe I left them there too long.

There was a package in my mailbox when we got home. The pawgeous necklace Kate Singleton handmade for me from Paracord for Pets had arrived…

Believe me when I say the picture doesn't do this beauty justice!

Kate creates one of a kind necklaces, bracelets, key chains and leashes with parachute cord. All proceeds support the construction costs of Bailey Chairs for dogs living with Megaesophagus.

Thinking like a true parent, I foolishly thought once we were home, Harley would relax a little, eat dinner, and then “pass out.” Instead he “kicked it up a notch”  and really raised the obnoxious roof. He tore some mail, tried to eat my glove, and wouldn’t stop bothering Leo during dinner…

Who is this dog?!!!!!

Who is this dog?!!!!!

I’ll be honest, he was acting so weird, I found myself laughing inside at this over tired lunatic of a doodle. He finally fell asleep and snored like an old man who had just worked a double shift somewhere.

But that was only so he could rest up for more menacing behavior on Saturday. Oh once the sun rose he was off the chain!

Caught in the act…

He allowed me to take photos while he killed the toy #noshame.

…of total annihilation…

Trashed

Trashed

After he threw all the toys around the family room I had no choice – time out – while I enjoyed a hot cup of coffee…

He pulled all those toys out

The rest of the weekend showed increasing improvement, with the exception of the on going saga of the tunnel...

I sense a teeny tiny bit of progress (I think).

I’m just looking for a teeny tiny bit of progress.

But I’m not giving up. If I have to drop Chic-Fil-A nuggets in there like Hansel and Gretel did with their bread crumbs, I’m determined to get them through that tunnel.

I know what you’re thinking, “Harley must miss his daddy.”

DH has traveled before – without all this “doodle drama.” I need to find out if this was one of the three times each year when the planet Mercury is in retrograde. I’m more likely to blame THAT on Harley’s bizarre behavior.

Nonetheless, at the end of the day, even with his quirky – out of control – possessed like – weekend personality, this still runs true in my heart…

I love me some Doodles

I love me some Doodles

That and the fact that DH flies back this evening – HALLE-DOODLE-LUJAH!!!

Monday we commemorate and honour the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. It is a day of service, reflection, and remembrance…

Poor Harley! Maybe he just didn’t feel well and had a doggy cold or something? It’s ok Harley, we can all have bad days once in a while. I hope you are feeling better.

On that note, I’m worried about my doods when my husband deploys this summer (still waiting on dates, there’s supposed to be a meeting this week). My babies absolutely love their daddy and a year is a long time to be gone. They nearly have a heart attack when he does weekend drills. They are so smart and know the moment something isn’t right.

I hope the boys are back to their silly, doodly selves! I’m glad you love your necklace!

Kate, the exorcism seemed to work, and we’ve got our ole Harley -Darley back again WOOF! Don’t know what the problem was, but hope it’s gone for good! – HA! I remember Lee’s deployments and that was w/o a dog so I really have no words, just prayers. Probably need to donate a couple of his unwashed t-shirts to their crates or beds while he’s gone. The necklace is so gorgeous, can’t wait to see my Daughter and give her the other one. Hope you get tons of orders my friend. Take care…

I can’t believe you boys are still not going in the tunnel! You just need to get started and then I bet you won’t come out of it!

I think there is something in the air because Leroy has been acting out a lot too. I keep asking him what his deal is but he just ignores me:)
    Love that necklace!

Hi Jen, “Mercury Retrograde” I’m telling you!!! He’s better today, so I’m enjoying it immensely – believe me. The necklace is incredible AND reasonably priced AND it goes towards such a great cause, you should totally look into getting one with your two on there. Kate is super talented.

What’s up SLIM? Whatever it was, thank the doodle it’s gone! Our mom was trying to do lunges while walking us the other day, and let’s just say she was in a predicament when the truck roared by, Harley leaped and I stayed still while she was in the middle of her lunge… She’s better, but she said a few bad words while she was down – Leo

That is strange; our dogs haven’t had any strange behavior recently. I think all the strange is coming from J – the transition from 3 dogs to 2 dogs to 4 dogs hasn’t been easy in our house. We’re having fun, but there is a huge learning curve for my boyfriend who is used to knowing everything.

Thanks for the post. I’m so jealous that your dogs can go to doggy day care.

Kim, tell J to embrace this temporary chaos, your “smooth groove” will come, but for now, drink wine and laugh at the madness- TOGETHER!!! For people like me, we get to laugh at your blog updates!!!
FYI: I’m jealous of you with all that acreage! Leo would lose his ever loving doodle mind in your yard. Much love girl….
