THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL | WORDLESS WEDNESDAY

If you’ve dropped by Doodleville in the past, you are well aware that Harley plays with ALL the kids in the neighborhood. On any given afternoon children will ring our doorbell and ask if he can come out to play. And if you think that’s funny, you should see him go out there and do just that – play!

A few days ago, an invitation arrived at my door. I was speechless and honored to find out one of the “mother’s” thought to include me in a “Ladies Breakfast” to celebrate the first day of school…

I cracked up when I looked at the time and it said "as soon as the kids get on the bus!”

I cracked up when I looked at the time and it said “as soon as the kids get on the bus!”

Simone, our hostess, really outdid herself with a table full of delectable breakfast goodies. I met the sweetest newborn, and a few new ladies from the neighborhood. One in particular was shocked when she asked me if this was my child’s first year at school. With a serious expression, I replied – “oh, Harley isn’t allowed on the bus, he has four legs.” For a split second she was speechless, then she realized I was the lady with the “white dog.” It was a wonderful morning to gather for food and fellowship with new and old friends…

BREAKFAST

Those strawberry cupcakes with lemon icing were Doodle*Licious with my coffee – Yummmmm

Simone thought of everything, she even picked up cupcakes to hand out to the children as they exited the school bus…

Trust me when I say they taste twice as good as they look

Harley and I strolled to the bus stop later that afternoon to render our assistance with the “set-up” in preparation for his furrends…

The table was set, the goodies were coming and the Doodle was ready…

It was so festive hanging out with all the parents, and other siblings gathered at the bus stop…

There were kids everywhere – Harley didn’t know which way to look…

The table was full of cupcakes, push-up popsicles, watermelon slices and cold water. I loved watching Harley in the thick of things like he belonged there…

And as the parents assembled the children for a group photo, multiple voices exclaimed: “Harley, come on, get in the picture.” Amongst popsicles, watermelon slices, cupcakes and smiles sat my “Doodle Bug” in the midst of everything, like he belonged there…

And we're off - another school year. God bless them all...

And we’re off – another school year. God bless them all…

Thanks Simone for a lovely breakfast, and thanks to all the wonderful people in our neighborhood for loving Harley 🙂

Wow, you have an awesome neighborhood!

I think it’s so cool that you were included in the mom’s first day party. Online there are so many squabbles between people who have kids and people who have pets. It’s nice to know that in your neighborhood they recognize that love is love and dogs are wonderful neighbors too.

Pamela – you’ve touched on a blog post I’m working on. There is so much cohesiveness in my area – I can’t imagine living in a neighborhood where there is that sort of tension – life is too incredibly precious and short!
