Last Wednesday we were told to “brace ourselves” for snow accumulations ranging anywhere from 12-15 inches. I tried to resist, but finally succumbed to the grocery store madness, and ran out that afternoon to grab a few items “just in case.”
As I hung up my coat and unpacked my “goodies” I went through a mental check list to ensure I hadn’t forgotten anything I needed to do. Nope! Couldn’t think of a thing.
In my mind, everything was “good to go”, so around 7:30pm as the first few flakes started to fall, I walked around the house humming “let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.”
Bright and early Thursday morning (as predicted), everything outside was white! Snowsuits on – we headed out for our morning walk. As soon as the garage door opened, Leo bolted for the yard and my heart sank….
Wilson, Wilson where’s Wilson? I had forgotten to bring his beloved ball inside the garage on Wednesday! Leo was frantic! He ran around in circles searching…
He even tried to look under the snow…
I felt so bad. The snow was wet, heavy and deep. I tried to kick it away from the fence thinking I could feel it with my boot. Poor Leo, he walked behind my every step…
We never found it.
Although the streets were somewhat clear, the roads were icy and treacherous. Temperatures were slightly lower, so the snow – now covered with a blanket of ice – made it even more challenging to continue our search and rescue mission.
It was a somber walk:
- I was trying to concentrate on balance, and remaining upright. The last thing I wanted to do was fall
- Harley couldn’t stand it, his nails were out like cat claws, as he struggled to get back to the house
- And Leo, well Leo was visibly upset…
Temperature wise, Saturday was no better than Friday. Since there are three Wilson’s somewhere on the property, we decided to try the backyard….
At one point we started diving…
This reminded me of the scene in the movie “Cast Away” when Chuck Nolan (Tom Hanks character) cries out: “Don’t worry Wilson, I’ll do all the paddling digging. You just hang on”…
Still nothing…
It’s still cold, the snows still somewhat frozen on top, and I’ve got one lonely doodle waiting and watching for his Wilson to show up…
We’re supposed to see warmer temperatures by the end of the week. What a reunion it will be – I’ll keep you posted…

Oh my! We don’t take toys outside and don’t play with balls, so we never have those problems. Hope Wilson returns soon! Good you don’t live in MN or it would be months until you would find him!

Hey Emma – Wilson is an “outdoor” ball. He’s never come inside – not any of the half dozen of them! If anything – they are gathered up (not regularly) and placed in the garage at the end of the day. I slept that step the night before the snow storm – YIKES. We’re going to pray when he shows up, that once he’s thawed out he’ll be good as new! We’ll keep you posted. Thanks for reading…

Poor Wilson, hope he’s just hibernating under all that snow. Poor Leo.

Hey Slim – If Wilson doesn’t surface soon, we may have to sedate Leo until Spring!

We are in Michigan and our scenery is pretty much identical to yours 🙂

Leo, my gentle giant – I feel your sadness…

Oh no! What a dilemma for poor Leo! Hopefully one of the Wilsons shows up soon. Maybe it’s a good thing that there are more than one of him 🙂

Poor Leo and Wilson!
Sherman somehow found his favorite toy buried outside in the snow last week. He was so darn excited to see that thing!

Hey Jen, it was like a holiday – even Harley got to hopping around.
