The origin of the Goldendoodle dates back to the 1990’s…
Breeders in both North Amreican and Australia began crossing golden retrievers with standard poodles…
Wally Conron first created the Labradoodle in the early 1990’s. As the Labradoodle’s popularity rose, breeders decided to cross Golden Retrievers with Standard Poodles.
They wanted to see if the gentle nature of the Golden and the coat and intelligence of the Poodle would produce a combination as popular as the Labradoodle.
Dog lovers immediately fell in love with the Goldendoodle. It’s popularity grew as so-called “designer dogs” became the latest fad.
But unlike most fads, the popularity and love of the Goldendoodle hasn’t faded.
This love-affair prompted another creation – the “mini-Goldendoodle” which is a cross between a female Golden Retriever to a male Miniature or Toy Poodle.
The first litter arrived in Jan 2002 attracting a great deal of aattention, ranging in size from 13 to 20 inches in height and 15 to 35 pounds in weight #cutenessoverload…
Controversy about whether this hybrid cross is an abomination or not continues to surface.
I and many others continue to believe they are –
- terrific family dogs
- friendly
- intelligent
- affectionate
- easy to train
Thank the Doodle for my Boys – they’re a joy!
*I am not a breeder nor a veterinarian. I am a Doodle Mom searching and sharing a better understanding about everything Goldendoodle.

Soon, you two will be experts on Goldendoodles!!

I think I could go for a mini Goldendoodle, seeing as how I grew up with miniature Poodles and as an adult became “mama” to two Golden Retrievers. By the time I’ll be ready for another dog, I’ll need smaller one. 🙂

I often thought about going for two of the Teddy Bear Goldendoodles but they have gotten ridiculous in price – #outDOODLEracious

We find they tend to be really high energy and a lot of people don’t give them enough exercise. At the dog park, they are always the wild ones. Not a bad thing, but people need to be ready for a high energy dog and not a couch potato 😉 People down the street gave theirs up because it was too wild for them which was really sad.

Oh nooooo so sorry to hear about the people down the street – Jax is a wild one – but he keeps me going, and I like that! We make sure he’s exercised daily and since we’re always on the go and he likes to go, it’s usually a day full of activities.

I don’t see why it should be controversial. Every mutt out there is a combination of different breeds and no one has a problem with that, do they? I don’t hear nearly as much about Labradoodles as Goldendoodles – has interest in them waned, or am I just not hearing about them?
April 20, 2016
Not sure – because I don’t have a Labradoodle, my ear isn’t tuned to those conversations! I see more doodles here in Charleston then I did in NVA. They are well received here. #thankthedoodle But I agree with you – what’s the fuss? How are you doing my friend?

I’m doing great, thank you! Just so busy settling in…the unpacking seems unending…..but we love our new home and even though it will be keeping us busy for quite a while it’s all worth it!
