NATIONAL PET DAY

If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off that a lot of humans.    -James Herriot

Have you noticed we have more holidays now than ever before? If it weren’t for FB, I would have missed “National Siblings Day.” By the way, when did that one start? #sorrysiblings

Siblings Day may have slipped past me, but you can “bet your doodle” I was ready for National Pet Day  on Saturday. #newpriorities #dontjudgeme

Held on April 11th, this pet holiday was established in 2007 by celebrity pet and family lifestyle expert Colleen Paige– the creator of National Cat Day.

The Boys and I had a day full of activities planned.

Harley’s day started with scrambled eggs and a trip to  OTPR. Nothing says I LOVE YOU better than a few hours with your furrends and favorite humans… #canineclub

daycamp

Since Jax is still receiving his puppy vaccinations he is MIA at the daycare – but don’t you frown, I had some fun times ahead for lil man as well.

But first…

Saturday fun cannot begin until Saturday chores are completed. But there was a bit of a dilemma – Harley was at camp, Doodle Dad was out of town at a conference, and I needed to mop my floors.

Who was going to keep Jax out of my way?

I love it when I improvise…. #callJimmyFallon

And if by chance you’re wondering – NO he didn’t appreciate that at all #upsetpup

Earlier in the week I had a revelation – if I was going to celebrate my doodles today, I couldn’t imagine doing it without my 5 star dog walker protege. Therefore I invited him to join Jax and I for an organized, intimate, supervised “puppy romp.”

What was supposed to be an hour of fun and frolic with puppies galore lasted 7 minutes for us. #yessir

Why only 7 minutes? Here are my top three reasons:

  • Jax wasn’t comfortable
  • Jax didn’t like it
  • Jax wasn’t comfortable and Jax didn’t like it 🙁

I know when my doods are asking “what in the doodle?” I can see it and I can feel it. In addition to Jax’s uneasiness, I felt it was poorly organized, too many puppies, and not enough supervision. So we left.

Not sure the organizer understood, she looked glared at me like I was rude and/or crazy. #Isleptwellthatnight

Now what?

With 53 minutes to kill, I called the pet resort to check on Harley. Sometimes by mid afternoon he’s laying around bored and ready to come home. If that was the case, I could swing by and snatch him early.

This Saturday he was in the thick of “fur fun” and probably would not have appreciated me showing up ahead of schedule. #sticktotheplan

With additional time on our hands, I needed a plan. Then the pawfect idea came to mind.

Whenever I’m feeling out of sorts, or the rhythm of my day has changed without my permission – I go where I know I can regroup and get back in step.

I go to STARBUCKS

#sumatranocream

This turned out to be the greatest change of plans ever! – Marshall had his first Frappuccino #whippedcreamplease #parentalpermission

And Jax had his first Puppuccino #holdthecaffeine

Jaxson Teller Bennett is now a ride or die Starbucks fan…

We scooped up Harley after hanging around the patio area making our own little Starbucks pawty happen, and returned to Doodleville.

Although they were both pretty tired, they allowed me time to whip up some chicken tacos #myfav and then I watched them end the day with that dance that they do…

Love me some Doodles – they’re my hip to my hop!

Dance cause it’s Monday then share us with your friends!

I am joining the Monday Mischief blog hop brought to you by Alfie’s BlogSnoopy’s Dog BlogMy Brown Newfies.

We feel the holiday thing is a bit out of hand these days too. Mom says she would be more accepting of all he days if they were also days off from work! Starbucks looks like a nice stop for you all! Mom doesn’t like coffee, so we never get to go there.

Emma, tell your Mom that Starbucks makes doodle*licious iced teas in different flavors (I like green tea) – so if she likes iced tea you can get your Puppaccino!

Hooray for pet day! Great day for the doodles. Lilly was never one for the big puppy groups — she was very happy just playing with Dash, thank you very much! Hooray for doodles!

Jax just didn’t seem to be comfortable, and to me it made no sense to force him to stay – for what? Maybe you’re right Deirdre, maybe at least for now, Harley is enough for him!

Yes, the “holidays” thing is a bit silly isn’t it?? I celebrated Nat’l Siblings Day by telling my siblings that Mom always liked me best.

We stupidly forgot Nat’l Pet Day – but then, EVERY day is pretty much NPD at our house.

Cute pics! Rita is very jealous about the puppuccino!

Hey Jackie, what if we (you & I) started a holiday? 🙂 Who knows it could take off #hilarious I had no idea the siblings holiday even existed. Jax loved his little treat, can’t wait to take Harley. He’ll flip because he’s been hanging out at Starbucks with me for years, but I never knew there was something there for him. Take Rita at least once!

We are SO part of the Starbucks Club, too!! Too bad there aren’t that many around here in the Spring Lake area. Closest one is on post at Ft. Bragg.
I loved your impromptu crate set up on the coffee table 😉

Barbara – I would love to ride through Bragg one more time. It’s been years 🙂 I love to work in Starbucks also, I will sometimes leave my office and ride down the street for a couple of hours. It’s the best place for me to write. I knew Jax wasn’t going to cooperate with my mop, so a pet parents gotta do what a pet parents gotta do 🙂

Great song choice for their dance. How lucky they are to have each other, and it seems that you are settling in quite well to that very hectic “puppy” schedule. 🙂

I’m trying Claudette – Dirty laundry everywhere, but it’s fine… They play well together but Jax just needs to know when Harley has had enough. We’re making strides though.
