I LOVE GOLDENDOODLES ❤️

When the stranger on the street asked me why didn’t I just get a Golden Retriever or a Standard Poodle, I quickly blurted out “because I love Goldendoodles ❤️”…

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been asked questions like that.

Pawhaps because I chose a hybrid – people assume I had difficulty making up my mind.

Not true. I simply love these dogs!

Once the popularity of the Goldendoodle skyrocketed (after its cousin the Labradoodle), the internet has become inundated with controversial conversation.

Dreadful stories and derogatory comments about them plague the wide world web.

People are quick to use unflattering descriptive words like –

  • stupid
  • hard to control
  • obnoxious
  • neurotic

To be honest, I’ve met plenty of humans that fit those adjectives. #dontlaugh

Imagine my facial expression when someone once asked me if they were “a little slow#Igotyourslow

Someone even  wrote that they were an abomination. #stopthemadness

Please tell me why would someone want to insult another persons pet like that?

Listen, there are all types of dogs. You’ve got your –

  • double droolers
  • big barkers
  • super shedders

– just to name a few. And they too are loved. But if those attributes are NOT ones you are willing to live with – I understand. After all – it’s your call. Every dog isn’t for everybody.

But just like humans – can’t we embrace the variety?

#mystory –

Not growing up in a dog friendly family, I had little to no experience with dogs of any kind.

Doodle Dad had one dog as a child. “Snap” was his name and he lived his entire life in the backyard.

That meant a pet for us had to be both human and canine friendly. We were inexperienced dog people. #doodleclueless

The Goldendoodle caught my eye about 13 years ago. I saw one and almost lost my mind to all that cuteness. When I looked into temperament, personality traits, etc… it fit our lifestyle. #pawsdown

I fell deep. I’m talking doodle-deep in love with their soulful eyes and endearing facial expressions…

The hybrid cross of the two popular pure breeds intrigued me. Here’s a fluffy dog that not only loves pets and humans, he’s also –

& Gentle

While the whole hypo-allergenic craze is attractive to many people – it wasn’t high on my list because I’m into fluffy #loveit

Besides, everything that lives – sheds #evenalittle

Just because I have Goldendoodles – I assure you – I harbor no ill will towards the Golden Retriever or the Standard Poodle. #notatall

I just happen to love the incredibly cheerful, whimsical and loving Goldendoodle…

film-strip

They’re super social dogs that thrive around people. And here’s the most important part –

THEY’RE PAWFECT FOR ME  –

But please don’t get it twisted – they’re no saints #meetJaxson They can get into just as much mischief as any other dog.

I will never understand how such a superior species as the two legged human can share such contempt about a dog who bring oodles of doodle happiness to so many. #mindblowing

As I continue to talk about my Boys with people I meet, I will try hard to dispel the myths. I doubt I will ever tire repeating myself nor will I become restless or impatient with the discriminating statements. #whoosaa

WHY? –

Because I’m too busy and too happy – having too much Doodle fun!

People ask and say the nuttiest things. Sometimes we are called pugs and Boston Terriers

Yes they do my friends. But like Harley & Jax – I love you Lily & Edward simply because I think you’re beautiful 🙂

Because of friends who have breeds that they love, it’s opened my heart to other breeds as well. I know that in my life, I’ll also have a few Goldendoodles and a few Great Danes – two breeds that I have developed a fondness for, because of the experience of others.

    Thanks for sharing your experience.

I feel the same way Kimberly! And while there are breeds that I know is not a good fit for my family – I would not and could not join forces condemning the breed. #justnotright

I can never understand why people would ask such rude and inconsiderate questions. The first thing I say when I meet someone with a dog, no matter what the kind, is “what a beautiful (or cute) dog! Then I might ask questions about the breed, grooming etc., out of interest.
Goldendoodles are high on my list of breeds I would consider. It seems to me they are the combination of two wonderful breeds, each which brings its own characteristics to the table! Your two are great examples of that!

Ahhhh – thanks so much JanK. I’m like you – I may ask questions because I’ve always wanted to know, but not to offend someone. Right now I’m fascinated with a pet rat blog – because I’m learning so much. I don’t think it’s the right pet for me – but I love knowing more about them. Thanks so much for commenting. Hope the house sale and move are going smoothly too – paws crossed for you 🙂

Yikes! I have never heard anyone bash Doodles! I am not sure I could be polite if someone did!! And whenever I see another doodle on our walks I call out to them “don’t you just love doodles?” And we all always agree! Doodles are the best! Even when Dash follows me all around the house whining on Sunday morning –even after we’ve walked, he has had breakfast and a treat–he still whines for more… Oh that boy. And when Lilly insists of being a lap dog while I try to watch a movie. But as you say I couldn’t love them more!

Deirdre – it looks like we’ll just have to keep on sounding the alarm and letting the entire world know just how incredible these dogs actually are. I love your spirit 🙂 #Doodlesrock

Cathy, if it’s any consolation, people wonder why I don’t have a doodle dog (Sam has the golden doodle coloring but he’s a pale red standard). Some people are just thoughtless and don’t think before speaking. Your guys are adorable and are clearly ‘pawfect’ for you and your family.

OMDoodle Monika – true confession time!! When I first saw Sa,’s photo I thought the very same thing. Too funny 🙂 You’re right, they are a pawfect fit for my family – as Sam is for yours. Have a great day.

Our mom says the same things about me and Stanley! BUTT we Doods do have high hair maintenance, need exercise and MUST be around our people! We are family members and the worst thing is to put us in the back yard and ignore us!

    Keep Calm & Bark On!

I would certainly agree guys. In fact I intend to touch on all of those subjects during my A-Z blogging challenge come April. I love the fact that you all are so family oriented. It makes it so easy to treat you that way. Take care… #doodlesrock

Makes perfect sense to me. Never quite sure why so many people feel they have the right to voice their opinions and assume their way is the only way. Whatever. Seems like you have found the perfect match for you. Hurray!

Some people just got to hate. I love goldendoodles even though I could never have one . I am moderately disabled and could not keep up with their energy. But I to love to read about your boys.

    • Cathy Bennett
      February 29, 2016

Lynn you just won the phrase for the day. You are absoDOODLEtutely right – some people just got to hate! I will try my best to convert as many as I can with the help of Harley & Jaxson – and in the meantime, you feel free to claim them as your own #virtually and enjoy the mayhem right along with me. Take care my friend!

    February 29, 2016

Goldendoodles are adorable and since my dog just died, I would consider one – only to adopt from a shelter.

    • Cathy Bennett
      February 29, 2016

Thank you BJ Pup – so sorry to hear of your loss. I know first hand how devastating the loss of a pet can be #believeme. I have attached myself to IDOG (International Doodle Owners Group) it is a doodle rescue that I trust. Please click their logo on the banner side of my home page and check them out. They have an extensive data base and excellent reputation when it comes to re-homing doodles. Thanks for stopping by and do come back again soon!

Isn’t it crazy that people think you care about their opinion?

Actually one of the great benefits of blended breeds like doodles is they can be healthier than some of the so called pure breeds. Mixing pugs with beagles is probably one of the best things that ever happened to those pushed in snout dogs. And guide dog breeders are mixing goldens and labs to get healthier lines and to combine the best of both.

But love is love, right? 🙂

    • Cathy Bennett
      February 29, 2016

I agree – but to some the thought of “blending” two different breeds are insulting to some people. It’s crazy but a reality I must deal with unfortunately. Just makes my life more colorful 🙂

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. My mom likes furry dogs, cute dogs, fun dogs, dogs with energy. Some like short hair dogs or real small dogs. Who cares, as long as you love your dog, that is what matters.

    • Cathy Bennett
      February 29, 2016

Emma – I totally agree. As long as both dog and human are happy together – nothing else should matter. But unfortunately pure bred dogs who are purposely joined together seem to be the scape goats for unflattering dialog lately…

What’s the A to Z challenge? We missed the info.

And I can’t believe any dog lover would question your choice!

But I have to tell you I laughed when I read about the person asking you if they were slow. Not because I believe that, but because of a funny post I read once. I’ll get you a link…

I have a miniature Goldendoodle myself and he is the absolute perfect pup for my family and I. I love him like one of my children. I highly recommend this breed for families!

    • Cathy Bennett
      March 1, 2016

Hi Sue – I do also. My neighbors children spent one entire year shadowing me to prove to their parents that they were responsible for their own doodle. They’ve had Ms. Finley for almost a year now. I simply love Goldendoodles! Thanks for stopping by – come back soon.

  • Pedro and Alessandra
    March 2, 2016

I’ve had the same questions and I used to get defensive, offended and sometimes I could get flat out offensive myself toward the human that spewed dismissive comments about my Pedro or GDs in general.
I have come to accept people’s ignorance and realize that if humans can’t withhold insensitive comments about others’ race, religion, sexual preference, etc., expecting them to respect that a Goldendoodle chose us to be his family and we were in the right place at the right time to make it happen… is beyond their capacity. To be narrow-minded is those people’s loss and definitely not my problem, I have so much better things to do with Pedro, so many zoomies to laugh at, a fluffy head to pet and a soulful gaze to get lost in…

    • Cathy Bennett
      March 2, 2016

AMEN – so well said Alessandra. I agree with you completely.
