GOLDENDOODLE COATS #BLOGGING FROM A-Z

Goldendoodle coats are not as easy a decision to choose as you may think. Black, brown, tan, apricot, cream and gold.

Every Goldendoodle coat and color is different, distinct, and Doodle*tastic…

better

Honestly? I had absodoodletutely no idea about this when I started searching for Harley, but I learned later #studentofdoodleology

I remember Leo at 6 months of age with an apricot coloring. His father was a dark rich cooper penny red blend. By the time he was a year old, he was white as a ghost – all over.

Jaxson’s “Poodle Papa” was also copper red – bright in fact. He remained tan most of his first year. A faint trace of tan coloring on the back of his ears is all that remains.

While this seemed strange to me as I watched Harley’s tan tints lighten right before my very eyes, I looked and waited for the change with Leo and Jaxson.

Goldendoodles rarely remain the same color as they grow into adulthood. It’s quite common for their color to lighten. I think Jaxson had the most dramatic change of them all…

JAXUnlike the many varieties of colors, there are three coat types –

  • Wavy/Shaggythis is the most common found in all types of generations*
  • Curlysecond most common – found more in F1B Goldendoodles* because of the poodle lineage
  • Straightleast common and often referred to as the Golden Retriever coat

Harley is considered curly, while Jaxson is definitely wavy/shaggy (as was Leo).

HYPOALLERGENIC DOG BREED –

The term “hypoallergenic dog breed” is commonly used to refer to a crossbreed that is more compatible with allergic people than other breeds.  wiki

THE MYTH –

Claims about the existence of hypoallergenic dog breeds may have been fueled by unsubstantiated articles on the internet.

SCIENTIFIC FINDINGS –

All dogs shed, and all dogs produce dander and saliva to some degree. Breeds that shed less are more likely to be hypoallergenic. The amount of the allergenic protein present on the dander and in the saliva varies by breed.

How hypoallergenic a particular dog is for a particular person may vary with the individual dog and the individual person.

I love all the coat types! Since two of my three favorite dog breeds are Golden Retrievers and Poodles, it makes sense that I’d love your Doodle boys! Corgis are my other favorites – Ducky’s personality is all Corgi and she keeps me endlessly entertained with her shenanigans.

I saw a Christmas parade in VA a few years ago, and they had a Corgi promenade as one of the participants. Imagine dozens of Corgi’s marching in the parade dressed in their holiday sweater wear – it was so freaking adorable. They are so cute…

It’s funny how coloring of our furs change. Guess what? When I was a baby my nose was pink BOL now it’s black

You two are a hot mess! I love you both. BTW – Harley’s nose gets darker in colder climates, so it’s no longer black since we’ve been in SC. Interesting huh?

Oh Emma – you fade too? say it ain’t so… I thought your coloring (which I love) remained the same throughout your life.

I saw a Goldendoodles yesterday and I melted. I have such an appreciation for the breed and I’m enjoying your A to Z. I’m glad that tomorrow is generations, that was my next question – what’s F1B?
