CIRCA 1886 RESTAURANT

WELCOME “BACK” TO THE DOODLE SPOT –

Wentworth Mansion and Circa 1886 Restaurant are part of the Charming Inns® family.

I believe that’s where we ended the first half of this months featured “Groovy Hidden Treasure.” The Boys were joining us for dinner behind the hotel in the converted carriage house…

DSCN4610

The restaurant harkens back to a simpler time – 1886, the year the pet friendly Wentworth Mansion® and its two story red brick carriage house were built – to invoke the culinary traditions of that era.

Even though we ate outside, the ambiance and excellent service mirrored indoor dining…

DSCN4588

The chef combines the French, English, Caribbean and African influences popular during that time with a modern flare, putting a new spin on old dishes and presenting them with a playful and engaging Southern attitude.

Let me ask – have you ever eaten somewhere and wanted to try EVERYTHING on the menu? #tellthetruth

It was so difficult to choose (took me forever) – but we had no regrets with our selections.

Here’s my entree and Lee’s dessert. #doodlelicious

A tour of the Mansion seemed appropriate after dinner. It was a struggle for me to leave this library. I could sit in there and blog my life away…

DSCN4735

The original owner of the Mansion was a local fireman. Story has it – he would climb up the cupola and walk the circumference in search of any signs of a fire. It’s height allowed him to see the entire city of Charleston.

Today, you can walk outside on its deck and the view is spectacular…

LUNCH –

Another entity of the Charming Inns® establishment is a downtown eatery called…

Located on famous “King Street” you can grab a bite to eat inside or as we chose – outside with our Boys…

Pet friendly Kitchen 208 is a great place for outdoor dining, Charleston style!

BELIEVE IT OR NOT –

Our mini vacay was over. #doodlegoneit It was time to “go home” and it was hard to leave.

Wentworth Mansion and Circa 1886 Restaurant are part of the Charming Inns® family of four elegant and historic bed and breakfast inns all located within the heart of downtown Charleston.

We stopped by the pet friendly Kings Courtyard Inn to show you one of three private courtyards perfect for a few moments of solitude or intimate conversations…

ONE MORE THING –

Do you remember in Monday’s post I chuckled at the bandana’s and snacks left on the bed for Harley & Jax?

When we returned to our room later that night, we found an “after dinner human treat!” strategically placed on the fireplace mantel #theythoughtofeverything

We hope you enjoyed our two part #doodlespot story…

Wentworth Mansion and the restaurant look amazing. We travel a lot with Haley so I’m definitely bookmarking your posts. We’re in North Carolina occasionally but next time we’re down there we need to keep heading south and visit Charleston.

What a beautiful mansion. So great it’s dog-friendly, there’s nothing worse than places that ban pets. The boys look extra white and fluffy for the trip too!

I know what you mean Talent Hounds. I have yet to find such a place with the exception of an indoor restaurant #understandable

Me PAWsonally? I think Charleston is a great place to put on your list 🙂

I think they should be the Inn’s mascots, it’s just so fitting. They look like they’ve thoroughly enjoyed themselves. 😉
    The views are INCREDIBLE!!

      March 9, 2016

The place is magical Lindsay – and I totally agree about the mascot idea! Let’s just speak it into existence.

The food looks absolutely delicious! Maybe – if we ever get back to Charleston – we’ll treat ourselves to a meal there. And hopefully you and Lee and the boys will be able to join us.

that does it! We’re coming! I don’t know when but I so want to come visit Charleston again, this time with Cole and DH. I was there another time and it’s so charming.

And here comes the Bravo show again, set in Charleston. Do you know any of those characters? LeeAnna

    • Cathy Bennett
      March 9, 2016

HA! Well come on down LeeAnna 🙂 I haven’t met any of the Bravo folks, I do know that the pups on the show aren’t theirs – they use rescues from the local Animal Shelter #cool But you know me – I’ve got to ask if anyone might want to work wit a Doodle #noshameinmygame

It looks like you had such a lovely time! That is so great that the Inn also provides pet sitters – they really did think of everything! But it’s even better that Charleston is pet friendly so that you could take the boys to many other places.

    • Cathy Bennett
      March 9, 2016

They do think of everything Jan and we met the pet sitter too! The photo of he and Harley came out too blurry. We didn’t use the sitter service because we wanted the Boys with us. Great feature to offer. Yes, Chas. is definitely a place for dog lovers.

What a wonderful weekend getaway! Sometimes old is good…as long as the food wasn’t from 1886!

    • Cathy Bennett
      March 9, 2016

Old is rich in character (like me and Katie!) it was a really fun weekend Emma!

  • Robin
    March 9, 2016

What a gorgeous place! I would absolutely love to visit a place like that. 🙂 It looks like Harley and Jax got to have a lot of fun while they were there. You are so lucky to have all of those beautiful things so close to you! That is one of the hard things here in Detroit. We have a ton of amazing history, but a lot of the buildings have been destroyed.

    • Cathy Bennett
      March 9, 2016

Robin – there is so much to see and do, and since the weather is beyond gorgeous most of the time – I find myself out and about more than ever before. Sorry to hear about Detroit- it stinks when people are so quick to tear buildings down never realizing it’s rich history and true beauty. Hope you’re able to visit Charleston one day. We’d love to meet you!

    • Cathy Bennett
      March 9, 2016

Love it – tell Dash to come on down. Hope these monthly hidden treasures about my pet friendly city bring more doodle friends to visit. We’d love to see you all again!

Such a beautiful hotel. I would never believe that they were so pet friendly. I’ve never had chicken fried salmon. Yumm. Now I want catfish. We should find a really good restaurant when we’re in Arizona.

Jackie, I was beaming with pride at how well they behaved. Later the maniac came out – but at least Jax listened to Doodle Dad while we were there LOL

What a wonderful mini vacation! I must admit that my eyes kind of glazed over at the sight of chicken-fried salmon. OMD! Dieting is HELL! LOL! That is a gorgeous hotel. ♥

      March 10, 2016

I never ate chicken fried salmon before in my life – I remember chicken fried steak as a child, I wanted to try it and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into it again. You’ve got to come down here and spend sometime, get inspiration for another book. We’ll dine on chicken fried salmon together 🙂
