ACADIA ANTLERS DOG CHEW REVIEW

Chew toys – we’ve had a few…

Usually when you bring a dog home, regardless of their age or size, you believe you’re suppose to provide chew toys – at least that’s what I thought. Through trial and error I know I’ve spent more than my share on a bunch of them, none that seemed to last long. Either they didn’t hold up OR they failed to hold their interest.

And then we met Mr. Moose – as in a Moose Antler from Acadia Antlers. It happened last year, when we received one of those paid subscription treat boxes for dogs. As I took the moose antler out of the box, I had no idea what I was holding. It was approximately 10 inches long, very heavy, and it had no smell. I tossed it aside and continued digging in the box with Harley looking for treats and toys.

Later that afternoon I noticed Leo was dragging this antler around the house, chewing on it like a beaver. I looked more closely at the tag and read:

“Acadia Antlers are all natural dog chews, that come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Give ’em a try!! They’re “BUCK-ing” great!!”

A few days later I was amazed as he gnawed at this thing non-stop. He made so much noise with this dog chew treat/toy I became curious over his fascination…

I went to the website, and there I read:

“they are non-splintering and an all natural source of calcium and minerals with trace amounts of iron, zinc, and sodium. The antlers are naturally shed from Maine Moose. No animal was harmed in the making of these chews! The chews are long lasting with no mess and no odor.”

As the days turned into weeks I noticed both Boys were taking turns on this thing, chomping daily, and it was holding up well.

Two months later (March 2013) when I purchased my tickets to the Super Pet Expo and saw Acadia Antlers listed as one of the vendors, you would have thought I was going to a “Luther Vandross” concert. Talk about excited. I had to meet this lady, she saved my life by way of a dog chew that could sustain and outlast Harley & Leo…

And that’s exactly what I shouted as I walked up to her – arms stretched wide ready to give a hug chanting “you’ve saved my life and I need another one of those antler things!”

It’s been over a year now and Leo is still carrying Mr. Moose around the house with him…

And if you could believe this, over half of it is still left!

AND, Carol Plescia and I continue to bump into each other several times a year…

Expo's, Fiesta's it's always nice to see her

Expo’s, Fiesta’s it’s always nice to see her

We saw her again this April and she shared some new tasty treats with the Boys.

The Chicken Jerky – All natural, human grade chicken jerky, in a 4 oz. package. Made in USA only lasted two days at our house. They loved it.

Peanut Butter Moose Balls – a pair of hollow hand baked dog treats in peanut butter, with a moose shaped cookie with antlers dipped in their moose dust moving around inside of the ball, and one on the outside!!   No saturated fats, refined sugars, preservatives or fillers!!

Harley was all over these….

The US War Dogs Association is also important to Carol and Acadia Antlers. They work extremely hard to support and spoil some of our Military Working Dogs deployed in Afghanistan and Kuwait!

Many people are familiar with deer antlers sold as dog chews but I wasn’t. I had no clue there was a difference. There is!

Antlers are generally found available from Moose, Elk and Deer. Of the three, moose antlers are the hardest. Elk antlers are hard but have marrow which when chewed tend to break into shards. Deer antlers are the softest of the three. Here in Doodleville, the Moose Antlers seem to be a front runner for now!

If you’d like to try a moose antler or anything from Acadia Antlers, Carol will give you 20% off – just mention “Groovy Goldendoodles” with your order…

Harley gives Mr. Moose and Acadia Antlers chicken jerky, moose balls, and moose cookies 4 paws up – all day long…

Yes that’s Mr. Moose between his paws …. Silly Doodle

I was not compensated from Acadia Antlers for this review. I was given Moose Antlers, Chicken Jerky and Peanut Butter Moose Ball treats for The Boys to try. All opinions are my own, swayed only by Harley & Leo’s lip smacking and tail wagging approval

Thanks so much for reading, have a wonderful Monday –

PS – If you read my last post Separation Anxiety, then you know I’m returning home from a fabulous mini vacay, and I can’t wait for my Doodle Reunion. Of course I pawmise to share…

Bailie and I enjoy antlers, but haven’t had them from this company. We always have a couple around the house in case someone has the urge to chew. Nice review.

Our friend Remy, who used to blog but now just uses Instagram LOVES Acadia antlers. Shiner loves her antler too, but we haven’t had these before. And hers are elk antlers I think. Oh, and those moose balls are adorable!

Ann – the Moose Balls look so tasty, and Harley savors it when he gets one. Carol’s antlers are really the best! So worth the $$ because they last forever.

I offered Leroy an antler a few weeks ago and the little booger refused it. I couldn’t believe it!

No he didn’t Jen, I can’t believe that 🙂 But then again, just when you think you know your dog….
By the way, I loved seeing him in the pet store, he is huge, and so gorgeous! Hope he’s still doing well.
