Many of us view Labor Day weekend as the time we say goodbye to the sounds of Summer. We are conditioned to bid summer adieu and go out with a bang on Labor Day. Some families steal one last three day weekend getaway…
…while others opt for a quiet stay-cation…
On Labor Day Monday in most of the country, public pools will drain and then shut down, and children will organize their back packs with supplies in preparation of a new school term.
For years, I’ve watched people use this day to stack up their lawn furniture, give the barbecue grill its last good scrub, and pretreat the front lawn with that autumn fertilizer application because before you blink twice – tree leaves will start to brown, dry and cascade to the ground.
While adults transition to the next season remorseful at the thoughts of what was never experienced, most children don’t seem to harbor many regrets because they’ve lived out their Summer to the fullest…
They’ve spent their days doing whatever they wanted to do…
Regardless to whether or not other people approved OR understood their obsessions…
They celebrated each and every “sunny” moment giving it everything they had. They gave their best, no matter how strange it seemed to others…
Summer is the time of year when all living creatures wish to “hang out” more. It seems to be the number one season for spontaneous group activities….
You feel empowered to walk right over and invite yourself into the fold…
Even if you’re the odd man Doodle out…
Because all you really want to have is that lasting memory. All you really want to be – is part of the fun…
Ahhh, the sounds of Summer, there’s nothing like it – whether your a child or a Doodle. Somewhere between the laughter, the barking and even the lawnmower, I find myself remembering my past, and for a brief second I can taste my childhood as I close my eyes and listen…
I am joining the Monday Mischief blog hop brought to you by Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy’s Dog Blog, My Brown Newfies.

What a great post! Yep, we are bidding farewell to another summer. The doodle and I aren’t quite ready, but alas. This post reminds me of the movie Because of Winn Dixie. Nothing like kids, summer and great adventures!!

HA! Dash & Lilly I remember that movie! Kids and Summer are like Peanut Butter and Jelly 🙂

Oh what fun! We’re not wont to say goodbye to summer until the first frost. Hunny will be in the backyard, working hard, up until then. My boys will continue to fight with weapons at the park long after Labor Day. Summer doesn’t end as long as the weather holds. 🙂

That is so true Flea, and all indications today tells me Summer is making a comeback – it’s 98 degrees today 🙂 I’m not complaining, just enjoying it!

We’re hanging on too Tenacious Little Terrier, this week we’re in the 90’s so the cushions on the lawn furniture stay on 🙂 Whoo-Hoo….

We are looking forward to cooler weather, but we don’t close down stuff until at least October and most of us nuts in MN even grill in the winter. Enjoy the holiday.
September 2, 2014
Hey Emma, I’ve seen your winters – they are serious business, so I imagine October is still feeling pretty good to you. We’ve grilled out in the winter also, it always seems to taste extra special when we do.

Looks like you had a great summer! Summer here is still going as it’s still really hot!
But you did just remind me to check when our local pool is draining as they let us doggies go and have fun just before they do it! 🙂
I hope you’re having a fun day,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂

Snoopy, seems as soon as I wrote this post, the weather climbed back up to steamy temperatures with hot sticky days. Our pools have closed already, so once again we missed the pups in the pool events. Hurry and jump in and splash around a bit for Harley too!
