THE MONSTER IN THE BASEMENT | MONDAY MISCHIEF

Once upon a time, in a land called Doodleville, lived a lady, her husband, and their two goofy Goldendoodles…

Two Goofy Goldendoodles!

Two Goofy Goldendoodles!

When her husband travels out of town for business occasionally, she never feels alone or afraid because he had her two doodles to keep her company. Until the night she heard the monster in the basement!

It was a terrible storm, that started at dusk and went on for hours. She couldn’t remember EVER hearing the wind blow so hard. As she watched out the window, she could see the tips of the tree limbs almost touch the ground. Throughout the first floor you could hear a faint whistling noise coming from the garage. The wind was pushing through the bottom, causing an eerie soprano pitched sound.

Up the stairs and back to her office she flew, feeling safe and secure with a flashlight in hand – in the event the power went out. Harley was napping near her desk, oblivious to the ruckus caused by the intense rain storm….

"no worries" at all...

“no worries” at all…

After about an hour of emails, blog post research, and FB browsing, it was time for a break. Harley was still fast asleep, and the last time she saw Leo, he was in his bed, out like a light…

He makes sleeping look so good...

He makes sleeping look so good…

While piddling in the kitchen, she froze somewhere between the fridge and the cabinet holding the drinking glasses. She heard something and it wasn’t part of the storm. It had a different sound, and it was coming from inside the house.

Hard to describe, but it creaked, it squeaked, and it squawked at times. Was there a window left open? Had the door become ajar? She stood there for what seemed furever waiting for her two fearless loyal pawtectors to come to her aid.

 They never showed up!

She stuck her head around the kitchen wall bracing herself for what might be on the other side. Nothing, but a slightly open interior door that leads downstairs…

OH MY DOODLE!

OH MY DOODLE!

Could there be a monster in the basement?

She knew she couldn’t go back upstairs until she investigated what might be lurking downstairs. As she approached the open doorway, another bolt of lightening lit up the night sky followed by the crackling booming sound of thunder. Perhaps that is what caused her heart to race, and her feet to move double time down the steps. She wanted more than ever to find the problem, fix it, and run back to the top floor – to the blue room where she felt the safest.

In one fluid motion, as her foot left the last step – she flipped on the light switch. She turned the corner ready for whatever was there to greet her.

Except for what she saw…

The Monster...

The Monster…

The poor lady just laughed. There sat the monster, playing with his toys.

She couldn’t recall how or when Leo got down there. Till this day, she still remembers closing the basement door hours before the storm began. This will always be an unsolved mystery.

But for now she shares her story to the little children who come and visit her in Doodleville. She tells them about the monster in the basement…

There he goes again...

There he goes again…

Thanks for stopping by, don’t forget to check your basements…

I am laughing, laughing, laughing!!! What a great post. Sometimes my doodles slip by me too and then I find them “poof!” in the laundry room or sitting by my bed. The pictures are fabulous in this post. Oh LEO!!!

Mom calls Bailie her stealth dog, she wears jingles and all but can sneak out unnoticed anytime. Maybe he has the same capability?

Great story. Our dogs aren’t crazy about the basement.

Thanks Bailey, Leo loves the basement, but this time he was down there alone and in the dark. Go figure…

Scary story….but I notice those door handles don’t need thumbs, just a paw in the right place..I bet he opened it himself.

Phew talk about suspenseful!! Lol, glad it wasn’t a REAL monster. 😉 It’s a good thing they aren’t bothered by storms. Shiner gets a little antsy for thunderstorms.

No Ann, I don’t have storm issues, but I do have 4th of July problems. Harley really doesn’t like the noise, so I don’t go out on the deck anymore. We watch it from inside the house. He’s not trembling or anything, just staying close to me, and that’s okay…

How brave you are! My husband travels alot and when I hear scary noises, I call Prince to help me investigate. I’ve seen too many horror films to go check things out alone! Anyone who checks out a noise by themselves in the movies, doesn’t make it. I’m too much of a skerdy cat to investigate on my own!

Stacey – I never thought about not making it 🙂 I didn’t think to call on either of the Boys, because I initially went downstairs to get a glass of juice. And you’re right, they never do make it in the movie do they? HA!

Bwa ha ha! Now that’s the kind of monster I’d love to find in my basement.

My husband is very absent-minded. He’s been known to shut the dog outside on the porch without realizing it. So now, whenever the dog doesn’t come running, I assume the hubster trapped her somewhere without realizing it.

Yep, she’s been a monster in our basement a few times.

I’m with you Pamela, these monsters are the best to have.
