WINE & DESIGN #THEDOODLESPOT

WELCOME TO THE DOODLE SPOT

An experience more so than a traditional “spot” is pawbably the better way to describe my evening with Wine & Design#groovyhiddentreasure

It was an unusual and refreshing way to spend a few hours unleashing #punintended my creative side…

Screen-Shot-2016-02-13-at-11.54.43-AM

All is Well Pet – the holistic pet store I’ve fallen in love with invited me to a “Paint Your Pet” class.

Sounded like fun!

Why not? #bucketlist

Having never done anything like this before I was both excited and apprehensive.

Excited –  because I’ve heard so much about these classes in the many places I’ve lived. I never dreamed of going to one but they had me when they said “paint your pet!

Apprehensive –  because girlfriend can’t paint! #challenged

All I had to do was –

Sign up, Show up, Sip up and PAINT!

SIGN-UP –

  • Pay $35.00 to register #nottoobad
  • Email a photo of the Boys

SHOW-UP –

  • They provided the canvas, paint, brushes, aprons and music. #getjiggywithit

SIP-UP –

  • BYOB

PAINT –

  • When I arrived, I grabbed my smock, canvas and photos of the Boys. #easypeasy

As soon as I sat down, Tyler our instructor came over.

After he introduced himself he told me I had the most difficult canvas to paint because Harley & Jaxson are both white! #wonderful

1

He promised to help me with shading, creating the illusions of curls and contrast but I still had doubt. #Jesustakethewheel

As I sat there – paintbrush in hand, tapping my toes to the Motown sounds – the people at my table were no longer strangers.

We were all painting and talking about a common interest near and dear to our hearts – our four legged babies…

2

The two hours flew by – laughter, music and constant encouragement filled the air. #couldhavebeenthewine

Meet Tyler…

Look at some of the pawsome talent…

DOG-1

DOG-2

I finally finished my Pablo Doodlecasso with about 15 minutes to spare!

WHAT DO YOU THINK? –

DSCN4497

Many people there that night were veterans. They’d done this sort of thing before…

DOG-3

Would I go again? Absodoodletutely!

DSCN4498

But when I do – I will definitely bring a friend. I went alone #Doodledaddontpaint

While the other artists were cordial – they were either paired up or came in groups of three. There’s no substitute for having your own “ride or die” buddy with you.

SO –

Whether you’re living in Charleston or somewhere else – if you haven’t tried to get your “art buzz on” you might want to grab a friend and give that ole paintbrush a twirl. #strokeit

They have locations in more than 15 states with multiple studios in many locales.

As I walked into the house I held my masterpiece with pride.

I GOT RAVE REVIEWS –

  • Lee smiled and made some neanderthal grunt of approval like men do #lovethemanyway
  • Harley tried to scratch his own face
  • Jax licked it

In my house those are positive signs of approval!

ME? –

I love it, because I love anything “Doodle” Golden that is, especially the “Groovy” ones…

Thanks so much for reading – have a Doodle*tastic day ❤️

You did a great job! You really captured their spirits. I went to one of these but there was just a pencil outline of Wrigley for me to paint. I would have much preferred painting directly over the black and white photo!

    • Cathy Bennett
      February 15, 2016

Thanks Amanda – The photo was a tremendous help – and having an instructor on hand to guide us made a world of difference. He helped me with shading – because I was #clueless LOL

Amazing job! You really captured the doodle essence.

I took a watercolor class in college where I learned that white is never just white, black is never just black, blue is never just blue… As you train your eye, you see all different shades and hues making up the colors we assume are just one color.

It looks like you learned that lesson in one night. It took me a whole semester. 🙂

    • Cathy Bennett
      February 15, 2016

Pamela – I didn’t learn “doodle” LOL You however sound exactly like the instructor! #yougogirl As I read your comment I glanced over and looked again – #nada All I see is white #lostcause

We have a local place that holds a similar event and I was thinking about buying tickets for myself and my friend. I think we’d have a blast.

The paintings from your class are gorgeous.

    • Cathy Bennett
      February 16, 2016

Oh Kimberly – you’ve got to grab your friend and go! It was everything I thought it would be and more…. I can’t wait to go again – but this time I want to take a friend. They are offering a “Mommy & Me” class in May, PAWhaps I can convince Tiffany to come down to SC and go with me #worthashot

  • The Daily Pip
    February 15, 2016

Wow! Great job. I am really impressed by all of the paintings. Mine would not have turned out so well .

    • Cathy Bennett
      February 16, 2016

The instructor said most people don’t think they will like their painting – but 90% of them do! And he was right. They are a tremendous help and can “fix” just about anything that you may mess up initially.

    February 16, 2016

    It looks wonderful!!!
I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now, we have a local sip/paint class that does a lot of fun themed paintings.

    • Cathy Bennett
      February 16, 2016

Oh – you must, you just must! It was such a wonderful experience. I am so sorry I waited so long to do it. See if they are scheduling a “Paint your Pet” class – that will put you in a room with other pet enthusiasts and you too will have a blast!

  • Greg Reid
    February 16, 2016

Great job Cathy! Hang it proudly. Next time, convince #Doodledad he must come along. Even if he doesn’t like painting…since drinking wine is allowed, a bottle of MD20-20 (not for your consumption!!) will take him down memory lane and the canvass just might sparkle when you guys are finished!

    • Cathy Bennett
      February 16, 2016

Hey Greg! When I asked Lee about going I never thought to offer up some of the “dog” #punintended. He may have come along after all. But you’re right, there’s no telling what would have ended up on the canvas once he finished. Thanks so much for commenting – it’s DOODLEful to hear from you 🙂

      February 17, 2016

Check out their website. I had no idea there were so many. It was a lot of fun. Might turn out to be the PAWfect stress reliever for you before you move.
