THE PET FRIENDLY WENTWORTH MANSION® #THEDOODLESPOT

WELCOME TO THE DOODLE SPOT

When I asked my husband if he would like to spend the night with the Boys and I at the pet friendly Wentworth Mansion® his expression was priceless.

And for a few moments he was also silent #hilarious…

As I continue to write about these “Groovy Hidden Treasures” in a city I’ve learned to love and adore, I thought the time was right to share some of Charleston’s pet friendly hotels.

The month of March has a way of teasing us about vacation time. Those scattered days of warmer weather can jump start our dreams of planning summer get-aways.

And if you’re like me, and love to bring your pets along, then I suggest you add Charleston to your list!

HERE’S WHY –

If you walk the streets of downtown Charleston it won’t take you long to realize how pet friendly this city has become.

Retail boutiques go out of their way to let you know your pet is welcome inside while you browse their merchandise. Dog bowls line the entrances and treats can be found by the registers.

Restaurants not only have outdoor accommodations should you decide to dine with your pet – quite a few have snacks for them as well.

And while Charleston has many excellent hotel options, non can compare to the Wentworth Mansion® …

HOTEL HISTORY –

The Wentworth Mansion® was built in 1886 as an elegant home worthy of a family of 13. Many of its original and distinctive architectural features still remain.

Restored in 1998 and converted into a luxurious hotel – the Wentworth Mansion® is a luxury hotel that offers guests (both two and four legs) a taste of Southern Hospitality in a very intimate setting.

The rooms and suites feature gas lit fireplaces with original marble mantels, king sized sleigh beds with European linens, whirlpool tubs and double glass walled walk-in showers.

Located in historic downtown Charleston, this family-owned Gilded Age-era inn and spa is surrounded by lush lawns and a courtyard with century-old trees.

As soon as we arrived I fell in love with the friendliness of the staff along with the architectural beauty of the building.

I was captivated by its charm the instant I stepped into the lobby…

DSCN4739

Though impressive with its exquisite decor – there is a coziness about it that even made the Boys feel right at home…

DSCN4746

As I entered our dog friendly suite I gasped in surprise. It was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. #breathtaking

DSCN4580I chuckled when I realized the “gifts” on the bed weren’t for me. The red bandanas and homemade biscuits were for the Boys…

DSCN4577

They seemed to have thought of everything when creating this magical experience for pet traveling humans. The attention to detail left us wanting for nothing.

The dog friendly guest rooms –

  • are located on the ground floor
  • have easy access to the lawn for potty breaks
  • provides an umbrella should you need one #andwedid

And while this may not be “pet related” it is certainly “woman appreciated” –

Jaxson seemed fascinated by the hallways in our quarters. A hallway to the bathroom, another one to the sitting/television sunroom and yet another hallway to a dressing area…

As we ALL dressed for dinner…

Lee gave Jaxson the “talk” about how to behave at the restaurant…

In 2000, the carriage house behind the home, which once housed the stables and carriages, was converted into Circa 1886 (ranked #12 top restaurant in the U.S., by the 2014 Trip Advisor Travelers’ Choice Awards).…

Wentworth Mansion and Circa 1886 Restaurant are part of the Charming Inns® family. Four elegant and historic bed and breakfast inns all located within the heart of downtown Charleston.

Come back on Wednesday and find out how the Boys did at dinner, see their interview and more “Groovy Hidden Treasures” with the Charming Inns® family …

Love a nice pet friendly hotel, especially with charm and personality. Mom still has a hard time with all the no dogs allowed rules here in the US. Germany was so welcoming to dogs.

Even though we didn’t have a dog in our family when we lived in Neu Ulm, I clearly remember how accommodating Germany was to pets. Charleston would bring a lot of those memories back to your mom. PAWhaps one day you call can come and visit.

I love Charleston – or Charles Towne, as it was called during the Revolution! It’s such a beautiful little city. (I grew up a train ride away from NYC, so Charleston is little to me. ) And for history “buffs” like my hubby and me, it’s a little piece of heaven. I definitely have to get back there some day. But unless I win the lottery, I won’t be able to stay at the Wentworth, that’s for sure. If you, Lee, and the boys are still living there though, I will definitely make a point of looking you up!

You’ve just mentioned the two most influential cities of my life! I grew up in NY and now I’m in Charleston. You are so right about the history. I’ve been coming back and forth for over 40 years and still find something new and amazing. The Wentworth is on the high end for lodging – however please come back on Wed as I showcase two other pet friendly hotels owned and operated by the Charming Inns family. My moving days are finally behind me so whenever you decide to come back for a visit please look us up! Would love to meet you 🙂

Isn’t it the best Dedra? If I could – I would just move right on in, live there forever! A wedding had to be spectacular to witness – I can only imagine…

Dat’s-da-truth Monika – It was a tiny slice of heaven right here on earth. The Boys even slept in the next morning like they were really on vacay! LOL

That place is GORGEOUS! Wow. I would love to take my dogs there, but they would behave so terribly. Maybe if I just took two we’d all be welcome back again.

You and J would fall in love all over again. It’s so YOU!!!!! You should definitely tag it and keep it in mind one day. #hugs

oh my goodness!!! What a fun weekend. I took the doodles to Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs one summer–your post reminds me of our experience. I do love traveling with the doodles. When we got to our cabin in Durango this Thanksgiving, the proprietor said “if you want to let the dogs on the furniture, will you put the sheets I’ve provided over the cushions?” Talk about someone who gets dog people! Go pet friendly hotels!! Great post. Laughed when I saw the pic of the bow-tied Harley. He’s ready for the grand dining room!

      March 7, 2016

I almost put Harley’s cuffs on him but since it was before 6pm I refrained LOL So your “pet friendly” hotel provided sheets huh? #interesting. I like how more and more independent hotels are branching out and making rooms pet friendly. There seems to be more of a demand from people who prefer to stay away from the hustle and bustle of hotel chains (their preference) and experience something local. I like the concept. Hugs to Dash & Lilly from me 🙂

Trust me Kari – they did just that! I think they would have stayed with the staff if I’d let them.
