While Harley and I spent a few days at the beach last month, I caught a fab 4th of July sale at PetSmart. The store was empty, so I let him walk the aisle and do his own shopping…
He made interesting selections, and seemed pleased with his loot…
There were plenty of people in the house, and he played for what seemed like hours…
We had fun, he had fun, but after a while, the humans were no longer interested in “Doodle games.” He tried numerous times to give us his “heartbroken Harley” look, begging for attention, but it wasn’t working. And that’s when he decided to take up a life of crime, and start stealing toys…
I guess, he thought “any attention is better than none”…
As he tried to choke the “doodle” out of this thing, my niece kept screaming that her rabbit was dying. I used my Doodle Mom tone when I called his name, and he of course released it from his grip. Poor Ava stood by in horror thinking her rabbit was about to be dismembered before her very eyes, while Harley gave me his famous “what do you want” look…
I told Ava to grab her rabbit, which she did, as Harley glared at me as if he wanted to say, “this isn’t over yet lady”…
And he was right! No sooner did the rabbit reach safety in the arms of its owner – Mr. Harley started staring at Ava’s sisters stuffed dog! Geez…
Gotta love him…

Oh yeah Slimdoggy, definitely got my attention 🙂
July 28, 2014
Oh yeah! Off limits human stuffies are always great to steal and dismember! Good Harley is a good listener. Fun post!
July 28, 2014
Emma, does that mean you have had your mouth around a human stuffie at one time or another? Shame on you young lady! 🙂 Happy you enjoyed our story…
July 28, 2014
Who doesn’t love a shopping spree ?!
July 28, 2014

Harley knew the rabbit had evil intentions.
July 28, 2014
Bailey, you think so?
July 28, 2014
Yup, nothing like a little retail therapy! Great choices, enjoy!!
July 29, 2014

My husband, yes, my husband, has a stuffed polar bear he adores. My first dog, Christie, got a hold of it and chewed off part of the nose. He was devastated.
I’ll just say your nice was much more adult about “sharing” her toys with Harley. 🙂
July 29, 2014
Pamela – my niece may have looked more adult like in the photo, but trust me, there was quite a commotion going on at the time!
July 28, 2014
Looks like you had a pawsome shopping spree! But remember, no human stuffies. They get pretty mad 😉
July 29, 2014
It was a PAWsome shopping spree for him. We don’t have many human stuffies around our house – thank the doodle….
July 29, 2014
Oh, those looks do say it all! Too cute! (Our last dog was like that – she’d start stealing things and get up to all sorts of mischief if she didn’t get enough attention! Little stinker!)
July 29, 2014
Jackie, almost immediately after Harley became part of our family, my daughter said she believed there was a little old man under all of that fur 🙂 I agree completely! He can keep me laughing all day long with his expressions, gestures and antics. Love him – to the moon and back!
July 29, 2014
Haha Harley I think it’ a great plan to get some more attention! Very smart 😉 Shiner has stolen some of our kids’ toys before too. Except for they didn’t last very long with her. She seems mostly interested in chewing up little plastic dinosaurs or dog figurines.
July 30, 2014
Oh no Ann, not my buddy Shiner! It doesn’t even sound like him!
July 29, 2014
It’s so hard to tell a dog toy “stuffie” from a human toy “stuffie,” so maybe that was his excuse?
When my daughter was a little over a year old, she had a favorite stick–just a regular branch, but she loved it. Unfortunately our dog at the time loved sticks, too, so we h had to hide The Special Stick from Kelsey so she wouldn’t run off with it.
Kids. Dogs. Fun times!

July 31, 2014
Ohh that is too funny!! Stealing toys can be sooo much fun!
August 1, 2014
