PET DENTAL CARE

Thanks to the super powers of the internet and social media, it’s no longer a secret that February is the month we ALL try to heighten awareness and focus on pet dental care…

PET DENTAL CARE

What a horrible thought (“if” you neglected your pets teeth) should your pup have a cavity, or infection and can’t bark out that they’re in pain and need to see a vet…

SINCE IT’S WORDLESS WEDNESDAY –

I thought I would resurrect a vet visit blog post/video Harley & I  had a few years ago to discuss BRUSHING MY DOGS TEETH #forthosewhowanttoreadit

Happiness is always an inside job ❤️

Shadow is getting her teeth cleaned tomorrow. She probably won’t be “talking” to me for a few days; but it needs to be done. Have to remember to get some of that TruDog mouth spray!

I’ve never heard of that spray, is it any good? Once I started them on THK food – bad breath has never been an issue. #grateful

It is difficult to think about the pain that a lot of pets are going through. Dental disease is easily overlooked. I think that the veterinary sign is brilliant! It is funny and true all at once.

Agreed Robin, we’ve really got to be more attentive to their dental hygiene and also make sure new pet parents are aware that they can start preventative measures when their furry ones are babies too!

I’m bad about brushing Rita’s teeth, I must admit, but my vet said her teeth looked great the last time we were there. I admitted my lapsed duties and he said something like that some dogs just have great teeth genetically, so I guess I lucked out. (I should still do it once in a while though! Don’t want them to get funky!)

I was surprised to find out Jackie that dogs don’t need their teeth brushed every night – so we’ve adopted that 3X a week schedule. It’s helped me remember as well.

I love a vet’s office that uses funny sayings on their boards. We are big fans of dental health.

With four dogs, we don’t brush teeth. We do, however, have plenty of bones on hand, and the dogs’ teeth always look great at the vet’s.

I tried marrow bones, but it just grossed me out so bad and Harley with his divo self wasn’t all that interested. We brush and use acadia antlers.

Our vet’s office gives discounts on cleanings this month too. Luckily we don’t need any right now! Still, we’ve had to in the past, so I’m always trying to do better about dental care.

It’s that one thing which I believe many of us fall short on…. I’m trying to stick with the 3X a week routine. I don’t always make it but I’m always trying….

I love pet dental month! Too many little fur kiddos live with uncomfortable teeth. Some of the kitties that come into the shelter have such rank mouths… the state of their teeth makes me want to cry! I can’t imagine living like that.

Here’s hoping more people hop on board the dental train this year!

I like your tag line Jean – “hop on board that dental train!” I can only imagine what you must see at the shelter. Poor fur babies is right…
