Yesterday a surprise came with our regular shipment of healthy, nutritional tasty goodies from The Honest Kitchen

TRAINING TREATS

It’s a new training treat called Cuddles!

A brand new gourmet, super delicious doodle*licious training cookie made with wild caught fish & pumpkin. Grain-free, bite size and just 8 calories.

Made with –

  • Chickpea flour
  • White fish
  • Tapioca
  • Molasses
  • Organic virgin coconut oil
  • Pumpkin
  • Parmesan cheese

All the food that my Boys like – but I’ve got to say, they’ve never had “tapioca!” #newfoods

While I did my happy dance in the room over the training treats, Jaxson’s nose was pre-occupied with the new human grade grain-free fish superfood…

TRAINING TREATS

That’s right, there’s two new Proper Toppers on the market!

WHY THE HAPPY DANCE? –

There’s a squirrel take-over here in Charleston and Jaxson is going to loose his mind #upinhere

TRAINING TREATS

I’ve got to get control since we walk in the most gorgeous park ever…everyday!

A new tasty “bite-size” treat that I can use ONLY for our walks is just what this Doodle Mom needs to keep me from getting jerked around. #punintended

I’m gonna start training this afternoon. Any tips, words of encouragement, and humorous comments are welcome.

ONE MORE THING –

Come back on Friday for our training update and learn about our squirrel fear and fascination.

Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations ❤️

This is our contribution in the BlogPaws Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

I know it’s hard Jaxson, but you can do it! Focus on the yummy treats and not the squirrels! (Even it they are taunting you from the tree branches)

Those are greats words of wisdom, but Jaxson is determined to be the first Doodle ever to scurry up a tree branch LOL

We have a hard time paying attention when great treats are close. BOL!

      That is my prayer!

We are always on the lookout for new training treats! We do so much, we have to keep switching things up to keep Luke interested!
For some reason, my dogs don’t get too distracted by critters when we walk. It’s another story when they see them out in “their” yard though!
Can’t wait to hear how your training is going – good luck!!!

Prayerfully, if I only use these treats for our walks we will make some head-way.

Oh, love that brand! We work on the “leave it” command and I always carry high-value treats when we’re on walks – she *mostly* does okay, but there are a few dogs in the ‘hood that make her crazy (especially one we call The Nemesis) so it’s a constant work in progress! Good luck with the squirrels.

For years I’ve fought bringing treats on walks. I wanted to train with only praise and commands, but I think I will have to break my own rule when it comes to the squirrels. LOL

These treats sound great! You are getting a lot of nutrition packed into those. I’m glad you found a treat that is even more tempting than squirrels. 🙂

Robin, we’ll have to see about that. One can only hope and pray they will do the trick. I’ll keep you posted.

Honestly, I don’t think even those treats would keep Chloe away if she saw lots of squirrels!! Good luck Jaxson! We are glad to hear that you are enjoying your new environment.

They are all over. I’ve never seen anything like it. They don’t bother anyone, they just seem to run the parks and the neighborhoods.

We are always on treat rotation. Lately, Mom has been making our treats from meat and it is working really well for us.

Making treats from meat? That sounds doodle*licious – tell your mom to share some of her recipes.

    Oooh those look yummy. 🙂
Squirrels are a tough one. Once they spot one, their entire bodies are at attention and they are ready to pounce. I’d say lots of positive reinforcement and treats and consistently. Do the same thing say after day after and hopefully he’ll desensitize at the very least, a little bit.

Good luck momma, you got this. 🙂

I too believe in repetition – to include continuing to walk through the parks. I want the squirrels to become so common place they will glance and keep it moving after a while. Well at least I could pray….
Have a great weekend my friend XOXO

Dedicated treats really do make all the difference. My kids will work much harder for special things than they will for snacks they get all the time. And I always save the very best stuff for walks!

Ha ha! I once read an otherwise excellent book on games to play with your dog that suggested you encourage your dog to chase squirrels for fun while enjoying an on-leash walk.

    DUMBEST. IDEA. EVER.

Hope the nice stinky treats work. Unfortunately, you have to spot the little critters before Jaxson does for it to have the most success.

Can’t wait to read your update.

Aw, fish and tapioca! If those treats don’t work for training, you could always whip up a fishy bubble tea concoction to distract from the squirrels, haha! Good luck with the training!
