NATIONAL LOVE YOUR PET DAY

It’s no secret that February is known as the “month of love” but did you know February 20th is “the” day to celebrate National Love Your Pet Day? #whoknew

This “unofficial” holiday is for pet parents to give extra attention to those pets whom we have that special relationship with and love so dearly – everyday.

When I saw this holiday listed on dogtipper I started thinking about what I could do to make Fridays “National Love Your Pet Day” an extra special one for my extra special Doodle!

I don’t know why – but Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s Sonnet 43 kept coming to mind. So I looked it up.

HOW DO I LOVE THEE? LET ME COUNT THE WAYS

As I read it, I started thinking of the many different ways I might celebrate with him. I wondered, should I get –

While agonizing over the fact that what I wanted to do was already done, I realized something from the sonnet.

Towards the end Elizabeth wrote:

I LOVE THEE WITH THE BREATH, SMILES, TEARS OF ALL MY LIFE

She meant that she loves him with every smile that crosses her face. And it’s not just her happy moments that go into loving him, it’s the sad ones too (the tears), and even the unemotional moments – that continuous “breath” of life.

And then it hit me – that’s how I shall show my love for Harley today and everyday. I shall continue to love him with the breath, smiles, and tears of all my life…

Happy Love Your Pet Day. We started already by sleeping in an extra hour. We’ll take a nice long walk and hang out together all day. Lot of cuddling and snuggling too. Enjoy your day and love your post!

Happy Love your Pet Day to you too Emma! A nice long walk sounds doodle*licious. It’s 8 degrees here in VA and the wind makes it feel even colder. Harley doesn’t do this type of temperature. In fact it’s been so cold here, I could probably coax him into wearing booties finally! BOL So we will do our celebrating here in the house as soon as he comes back from day camp. Take care and enjoy your weekend 🙂

Love this post! Great sense of humor with the photos. I especially like the way you incorporated the sonnet from Elizabeth Barrett Browning in expressing your love for Harley.

Thanks very much Rachele! Couldn’t get the sonnet out of my head so I surrendered and used it 🙂
