S’MORES | MONDAY MISCHIEF

S’mores – a super sweet dessert meant to be eaten outside and designed to be messy. Do you like s’mores? Have you ever had one?

Growing up I would spend one week out of the summer at “sleep-away” camp. I enjoyed the experience – but when we sat around the campfire circle, I was the “only” kid out there that didn’t like s’mores. Even now, as a true “grown-up” I cannot convince myself to bite down on all that sweetness.

This Saturday was no different then the rest of my life when it comes to s’mores.

Doodle Dad and our neighbor Mark spent the majority of their Saturday afternoon testing a new tree trimming gadget.  According to them, this giant sickle like saw reaches tall branches. And tall branches they did reach…

They were having so much fun with this thing, by the time they finished cutting and chopping, we had this huge pile of wood. And right on time because as the sun went down, the weather dipped just a little. So we did this…

DSCN4559

Seemed foolish not to maximize the use of this beautiful fire. The boys came over and with Harley’s supervision they got busy…

Harley wasn’t really too sure what they were doing – but when he got a “whiff” of all that sweet goodness…

DSCN4562

Harley’s head was moving back and forth so fast – he looks like a big blur

He solicited hard for just a little taste…

DSCN4556

HARLEY: “come on man, I thought we were buddies, slip me a piece, I won’t tell”

I’ll give him this much, he was determined and relentless…

DSCN4561

HARLEY: “Ok, new plan, just drop a piece, say it was an accident!”

I don’t know how they did it, but they ate three of those things, and when the sugar rush faded they came down hard. Sleep almost knocked them over…

TIRED

I don’t think Harley was tired when he abruptly retreated and went inside, I think he was upset because he never scored a taste…

Smores are so yummy according to my mom. Bummer they aren’t for dogs.

Emma, I’m the wrong person to comment on their yumminess – when I look at them, they make my teeth hurt!!!

I LOVE your back yard, almost as much as I love s’mores! And your boys are adorable. 🙂

Thanks Flea, we are truly outdoor people, so we tried to make it as comfy as the wallet could handle BOL FYI – I borrow the human kids from next door, but I would agree… they are adorable 🙂

Dang Harley that’s too bad! That smore looks delish! I don’t think I’ve ever made one that looked that good!

Hey Ann, now they sell these JUMBO marshmallows for s’mores. It’s like diabetes in a bag!

Harley, I’m with you. Nobody ever shares things like s’mores with me either. They sure look good.

Oh, poor Harley! I love s’mores but even I ( with a sweet tooth the size of Rhode Island) don’t think I could eat three! Good job, boys!

Jackie, I was so afraid that they would be sick the next day, but they were up and waiting for me to walk Harley the next morning, so I guess that’s the beauty of being a kid!

Poor Harley. Didn’t anyone ever tell you chocolate isn’t a doggie treat?

And I’m with you. S’mores are a whole lotta calories for very little reward. I’d rather have a nice tangy margarita.

Pamela – I agree, you must drop by with Honey whenever you’re in the area. Margarita’s on the patio….

We have to come up with a dog friendly s’mores recipe for Harley.

You are not alone!! And here I thought I was the only one that didn’t like smores! 🙂
I think my dogs might like the graham crackers and that’s about it.

Oh my Doodle Jan, you’re the first adult that I’ve ever known that feels the same way. We’re officially kindred spirits 🙂

    Oh poor Harley,

Sorry you didn’t get a treat buddy, they could have at least given you a carrot, right?! 🙂

    I hope you’re having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

Hey Snoopy – how are you? Harley did get a treat and had the nerve to spit it out because he was holding out for his s’more taste. Silly Doodle, he ended up with nothing 🙁 Take care – doing over your way later this evening.
