NATURAL PAWS PRODUCTS SOOTHE THE ITCH

Seems as if Harley’s been gnawing at his front paws ever since we moved to my tropical paradise. That is, until we learned Natural Paws products can soothe the itch associated with environmental allergies…

np 2

For months I’ve been battling this allergen monster on Harley’s behalf. Paw nibbling didn’t start until shortly after we arrived in Charleston.

During a routine visit to the vet, I expressed my concerns. He examined Harley then said –

“Harley is suffering from environmental allergies”

np 3

I felt like Gary Coleman from TV’s Different Strokes…

Harley’s NEVER had allergy issues.

Dr. Jon was forced to spend quality time with me that day. I needed answers.

I wanted to know –

  • How?
  • From where??
  • When would it end???

HERE’S WHAT HE SAID –

  • Seasonal allergies are common here in the South. Charleston ranked 28th this year with the Asthma and Allergy Foundation #wonderful
  • Pollen, grass, mites, the great outdoors!
  • Some dogs (transplanted to the SC area) only suffer with these allergy issues initially. Over time, their immune systems seem to adjust. While others suffer as long as they live here. #ourluck

I opted to try an over the counter antihistamine (Benadryl) for a few days to offer him some relief, but I didn’t want to do this forever. I just needed to buy some time as I searched for a more holistic way to defeat this new enemy.

AN ANGEL APPEARS –

Fast forward to June.

I’m in Phoenix at the Blog Paws Conference. I’ve just made it through the lunch buffet line.

I’m juggling my plate of food, utensils, beverage, AND computer bag like a circus clown – trying desperately to look “cool” as I navigate through the round tables and chairs in the main ballroom searching for a seat.

“Cathy – over here!… ”

…echoed a friendly voice in the direction I was going.

As I sat down with Kimberly and Lara, a super friendly woman named Elyse Morvath extended her hand and introduced herself.

She had no idea, meeting her, was going to change my Harley’s world.

Elyse owns Natural Paws – a company that makes Organic Skin Solutions for pets…

np 4

As she talked about her products I hung onto her every word.  She had my undivided attention when she said “holistic remedies#speakingdoodle

I left there with two of her products –

  • TenderPawsa lavender, tea tree, and chamomile scented paw licking and chewing spray. After a walk I spray and wipe their pads to remove the environmental allergens  from the pavement and grass. It leaves their pads soothed and refreshed. TenderPaws works hard to draw out the toxins, and removes the feelings which cause the behavior of licking and chewing…

np 6

While the Benadryl decreased the itching sensation, the allergies were still there #doodleit

Since he’d started scratching other parts of his body I asked for a bottle of –

  • Ditch The Itchan all over spray for people like me feeling as if my dog was “allergic to the world.” A relief spray without the use of steroids or chemicals. I can spray his entire body (to include his itching paws) if needed and not worry about him licking the area – it only contains organic plant ingredients.

Natural Paws products have eased Harley’s discomfort tremendously. It offered him “external” relief as I tackled those annoying environmental allergens – from the inside #naturally

I promise to share my “internal” strategy with you on Monday. #comeonback

I am such a believer in the Natural Paws products I’ve used, ActivePaws is next on my list.

It contains organic essential oils and extracts specifically to promote strength and cellular repair to the paw pad.

This is going to be beneficial to Jaxson because beach sand can tear up a brother’s pads! #whoknew

ActivePaws comes with a bonus too! The cedar aroma also provides a natural insect repellent! I’m tempted to dab a drop behind my ears! #doodledareme

    Seems like a great product!

So far it’s truly given Harley the topical relief he’s needed when the itching became persistent. I’ve added a natural supplement to their diet and after several weeks – he seems to be winning the battle from within! Come back on Monday – it will be PT 2 of this series. Have a great weekend!

I love reading your columns, your love for Harley and Jaxson shines through. It doesn’t hurt that you are also a great writer!
Itching paws are a problem, even if it is a short term issue. Pups chewing on themselves can lead to hotspots, and we know how awful those are. Sounds like this product will certainly fill the bill.
    Thanks for the review.

Hi Cheryl – thank you so very much! Our audience family means the world to me, and I smile all day when I know you’re enjoying our stories! I can’t wait to tell you (on Monday) how we tackled the allergens from the inside! I’m adding a great natural supplement to their food and after several weeks (along with the topical relief from Natural Paws) Harley is practically “itch” free! Have a great weekend and thanks so much for reading!

This is Wonderful information. Ziggy had a Hot Spot. It scared the life out of me cause I had never seen that before. I thought just watching him & distracting him when he began to lick the spot it would eventually heal (dumb me) it wasnt till I took him to the groomers, that I found out what it was. I bought some stuff from the pet store, but Now I can order this – to have it on hand in case this happens again.

Yes you can! Great stuff to have on hand. Harley had a hot spot on his tail when he was a pup. Like you, I was scared to death! Luckily my vet has the patience of Job and calmed me down. Did you take Ziggy to the vet? I did. The same thing happened to me, Fernando told me what it was, and I made a vet appointment. I believed him, but I also wanted to know what to do in the future if it came back again. Let me know how Mr. Ziggy is doing! Have a great weekend!

Jordan – it took me several months to figure this out. At first I thought it might be food, but I haven’t switched food in years! Come back on Monday to learn how we’re winning the battle by strengthening his immune system – naturally…

Nicole, Tender Paws helped Harley out – I can tell you that! And it doesn’t take much to mist a paw, so this little 2 oz bottle is still going strong.

We’ve heard yeast type allergies are common in hot humid climates. But we love it when non-chemicals can make our fur-kids feel better. Kudos to you for finding and using what seems like a great product. Isn’t Blogville the best?

I think Piper will appreciate the “Tender Paws” spray on her feet. It seems to give Harley a great deal of relief. Check with Doodle Doc about this supplement I’m going to talk about on Monday and see if she thinks Piper would benefit. It’s all natural and so far I’ve seen improvement with Harley. So happy you enjoy reading about our trials and tribulations! It’s therapeutic to share!

As long as you’re living in Minnesota Emma, I doubt seriously if you’ll have this issue. The extreme heat and humidity plays a major factor in this region.

We haven’t had too many issues with allergies, though both of the girls have at times licked a bald spot onto their legs, but it was just a one time thing for both of them.
I’ve always thought about trying to keep their pads healthier, especially as the girls age. We walk on a lot of dirt and gravel that can be tough on them. Our beagle Kobi had very dry paw pads (and nose), but I never really found anything that helped him much.
I’m so glad you’ve found things to help out Harley!

      August 13, 2016

I am super happy myself. It’s so troubling when your dog is suffering and you can’t figure out what’s wrong. It was driving me crazy – that and the fact that most people just attributed it to “environmental” or “it’s just allergies” that just wasn’t good enough. Paws crossed this supplement I’m talking about on Monday continues to work.

I love Natural Paws. I try to use natural products on my dogs whenever I can because I don’t want to make an issue worse. Our dogs do very well on Ditch the Itch and EARroma thEARapy by Natural Paws.

The scent is so light that even Zoey isn’t too upset when she needs to get a “treatment.”

    It’s natural and IT WORKS!!!

I’ve been extremely pleased with the results also. the relief it’s given Harley while waiting for the infection to go away was a life saver. It killed me to watch him nibble on those paws so much! Definitely a product I intend to keep on your shelf.

I’d love to try some of this magic on Baxter’s paws. Part of me thinks it’s allergies and it’s also become a habit. I should try and then go from there..

Thank you for sharing momma, 😉

Hey girl – I was just like you, but when it became obsessive, I was like “hold up!” I did’t panic until the sores and scabs started to appear on his back, that’s when I knew he was in trouble. I knew it wasn’t the food, but he needed help. Tender Paws really helped him while we waited on the supplement. XOXO
